Never in the unfortunate multitude of brake failures I've had on GM vehicles has that valve "shut off" anything. If it did you wouldn't get that spongy pedal and half of the master emptying itself. All it does is turn on the warning light. If the system is that neglected it is possible that... -

The combination valve does not prevent fluid from going to either circuit. The switch also has nothing to do with it. It only activates the warning light. Since you have no pressure on the rear circuit it stands to reason that the light is activated. Unless the valve is a ball of rot you've... -
Rear end advice
Is it leaking? If it isn't I'd probably just clean it, paint it and run it. Maybe do an oil change. That way you can see what kind of shape the innards are in, and whether it has a gov-bomb or not. Just so you're prepared. BTW, they like synthetic oil.- Blue Ox

Why does no one make aluminum replacement body panels.
I'm not an expert in stamping sheet metal, but I know stainless has weird properties compared to carbon steel. If I won the Powerball I might commission a set of dies for a stainless Squarebody. I can't imagine what it would take to make the entire truck that way, but I can appreciate the idea...- Blue Ox

Tires for 16in rims
Factory tires for my K20 with a 16x6.5" rim were 235/85R16 pizza cutters. I believe they were about 31". I'd have to look at what I did on the suburban, but I think it was 245/75R16, but with a wider rim. It yielded a wider tire, but about the same diameter. If you have a lift you could go...- Blue Ox

What are some options for mud flaps?
There used to be kits available for this. If they don't exist anymore it still wouldn't be a big deal to fab one up with some hardware store stuff like perforated angle. We used front mud flaps from a tractor, which are sized for one wheel instead of the duals. You may recognize the logo... -

Funny. We had two fail when the truck was new. The third one, we switched to PS fluid and it's still in the truck today. BTW, the factory fill was Dexron. The manual called for it too. No mention of PS fluid.- Blue Ox

Brake hard lines
Don't quote me, but I'm fairly certain the lines from the master (on my truck, YMMV) are the same diameter, but they use different size threads to prevent them being mixed up. The fronts split down to 3/16" at the prop valve. The rears split to the smaller size on the axle. Sorry, no idea on... -

It's bigger because you're supplying two brakes with a single line. If you're running two lines from the prop valve then it doesn't apply. -

I'm fairly certain the line to the rears is 1/4" until it splits at the hose/axle, then 3/16" from there. -

Usually it's the O-ring in the vacuum switch. The "updated" base eliminates the switch, but it's pretty easy to change the O-ring and retain the functionality.- Blue Ox

5.7 to 6.2 diesel engine
6.2 has a Chevy bolt pattern. Transmission will have to be changed too. THM400 is a much better transmission anyway.- Blue Ox
