My dash lights and gauges don’t work.

While we wait for replies, did you go back to regular bulbs or are the LEDs still installed? LEDs do weird things to the parking light circuit I hear so maybe similar issues with the cluster.

    11" brake drum question

I follow your thought process on the new drums without the adjuster. I could see it being a problem if the brakes go bad, but if you are redoing the shoes and putting new drums on you should have 50K or so before you even have to worry about it. Maybe plan on an inspection every 10K ? On that...

73 C20 front brake issue, The right front caliper will not retract, causing the wheel to almost lock.

Like anything else, where made has an impact. I'd swear that top box flap says China ... :( Surprising, but I have had bad luck with parts made in Brazil as well. US, Mexico, and Japan are my top 3 options if you can find them. Taiwan , Thailand, and some of the "lavokia" type countries...

Looking for longer lasting brakes (budget upgrade options?)

Maybe just a fluke of this site, but I *think* this is where I went last time to get 'organic' pads. https://www.carid.com/bosch/quietcast-premium-organic-front-disc-brake-pads-mpn-bp52s.html?singleid=3248330303&url=157113105 They came in marked as semi metallic - I just ran 'em. A seperate...

    What is this wire?

Here is a quick pic to ID - it will either be a 350 or a 400. https://www.onallcylinders.com/2016/02/24/transmission-match-how-to-visually-identify-an-automatic-transmission/

    What is this wire?

Some additional pictures of the wire along the passenger side of the frame. @Ricko1966 is going to be the expert on the electrical side. :waytogo: 1st pic is about midships and the other is looking over the front axle at the starter. The 3rd is same area but a different , direct on, angle.

Yeah - that is the one I am referring to. :waytogo:

    What is this wire?

Cruise still works, too - when the handle will cooperate. :dogpile: Look at this pic - this is the pink or orange or tangerine or whatever wire :anitoof::p I was referring to. I am almost positive it is the gas gauge wire but that is from fuzzy memory. The wire is on the left side of the pic...

    What is this wire?

Chase the wire from the tank up the passenger side of the frame. IIRC the tank wire was supposed to be pink ... Given time & fade, I can see it ( color fade ) as mine is kind of like that. :anitoof: I can't imagine why it would have a spade connector, but who knows. At any rate, that...

    What is this wire?

Does your fuel gauge work ? IIRC the tannish wire running down behind the EFE is for the fuel tank sender. The wire on yours almost looks like it goes to the body and is grounded, though, which would not be it. Hard to tell from the pic.

    What is this wire?

I looked on my 80 - took some pics but still can't answer. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Whats this purpose and where does it land?

I searched and could not find a really good answer. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/search/937365/?q=ac+vacuum+source&o=relevance Here is perhaps a helpful schematic : https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/ac-control-vacume-line-source.41340/post-871934 I'd take a pic of mine, but it is a 1980...

Craigslist / Facebook/ OfferUp Finds: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Here's the funny thing - I LIKE green. It is my favorite color. I think this combo is kind of fugly, though. :anitoof: Green & tan was THE RAGE back then - that combo, or white in the middle , would have been better IMHO. Despite all that - I'd rock it. :dogpile:

73 C20 front brake issue, The right front caliper will not retract, causing the wheel to almost lock.

It looks that way on the outside. Look at the below - the reservoir on the left side is the one closest to where it bolts to the booster and is for the fronts. :waytogo: https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/rear-brakes-locking-up.46675/post-1000177

73 C20 front brake issue, The right front caliper will not retract, causing the wheel to almost lock.

Oh, so close. Bigger reservoir = front Brakes. Bigger line on my square(cast iron square reservoirs as a whole ?) = rears. :patriot:

73 C20 front brake issue, The right front caliper will not retract, causing the wheel to almost lock.

Why does the drum side use a larger line diameter? That logic puzzles me. Thanks !

73 C20 front brake issue, The right front caliper will not retract, causing the wheel to almost lock.

Please define forward. That set up is like mine and the big line in the front (forward) part of the master cylinder feeds the rears.

73 C20 front brake issue, The right front caliper will not retract, causing the wheel to almost lock.

Hmmm - my 1980 is set up with the cast iron master cylinder and the reservoir farthest from the pedal , closest to the radiator ( front ? ) feeds the rear brakes. The one closest to the pedal - that feeds the front brakes - does seem to be the larger one...

    Drum Brake Parts recommendation

Most stuff out there seems to be Chinesium , so when I had to replace a wheel cylinder recently I went w/ the least expensive option since it was all made in the same place. :( That being said, Dynamic Friction Components ( DFC ) seems to be a good brand but I am not sure if they offer...

Two questions, one about color and one about options

Looking at sold pictures of what are supposed to be original 84 vehicles ( trucks, SUVs , both small & big block ) it appears 84 may have been a transitional year. I'd guess early production was corporate blue and then maybe mid year the black came about. For the whole engine paint, not just...

What parts do you carry with you?

Ignition module , spare fuses, and some spare bulbs. Anything else is more than I care to do on the side of the road. I do need a cheap truck tool kit, though ... *EDIT* Forgot fluids - those are carried along with a spare floor jack.
