Does this look correct to everyone??

It is definitely better than your first post- but still looks a little odd. Having more weight might make the spring pack flatten out and get "longer". Then as the spring pack settles a bit some of the arch will go away. ORD talked about spring packs that have a lot of arch to them and the...

    NP203... no 4 wheel drive

The issue I have had for a long time is both the NP203 and the 205 do not have a low enough gear reduction ratio for me. So putting in a 205 that I don't own then re-doing both driveshafts gets me to a more robust unit that still doesn't have a low enough range for me. You can do a "doubler"...

    NP203... no 4 wheel drive

Small update here- I've been busy traveling so I dropped off the truck last week at a shop I've never been to. My main mechanic friend retired and recommended the place. They also specialize in aftermarket offroad stuff- so they liked my truck instead of laughing at it. The chain snapped. And I...

Does this look correct to everyone??

I used the same holes as the stock 52" spring hangers. The ORD design spring hangers are universal- meaning using those same 52" holes you can then run either spring length depending on where the offset is on the hanger. Having the shackle flipped around will give you a much better ride. I'd...

Does this look correct to everyone??

My truck came with 52" springs and I replaced them with a brand new stock 56" spring with almost the same weight capacity and the truck rides much better. I used a 2.5" shackle flip from ORD. This moved my axle notecably forward. I didn't like how it looked so I used their 1/4" thick axle...

Does this look correct to everyone??

Those hanger brackets have an offset to them. If you swap the passenger side and driver side it should work. Several different companies make those brackets- if you mount them they way you did you can run 56" springs. Mount them the other way then they are for 52" springs. At least from...

    37x12.50r15!?!?

I think nowadays you will be limited to super swampers (IROK radial, trxus, TSL) or the maxis creepy crawler tires.

    DISC BRAKE COVERSION

I did a rear brake conversion on my K20. My rear drums had filled up with mud a few times from water crossings, and since I don't have a good crawl ratio some of the trails I went down I had to ride the brake the whole time. Once drums get hot they won't cool down for a long time. Disc brakes...

Snow wheeling. Now I want to re-configure...

Well- I was all excited about 3 weeks ago- met the offroad guys to head up to the top of some mountains to find snow. Got to a small field where we air down the tires and I found out my 4wd was no longer working. While driving down the highway a large clunk/bang was heard and my NP203 shift...

    Optima Batteries worth the cost?

Amazing how everyone seems to have different experiences. My dad used to be a big diehard battery guy. They failed him twice on different vehicles so then he switched to redtop optimas about 20 years ago and talked me into it at the same time. In 20 years he has only had 2 optima batteries on...

    Selling My Sidekick

Nonstop- you just made me very very sad... I *just* spent $5,050 to pay off my wife's car early. :( Was that a wise decision? Some would say so, but I'm kicking myself. That is a great truck.

    Smaller steering wheel

Apparently I don't have pics of my wheel... but I was inspired to buy that wheel based on @WillSquared and his pictures: It is a smaller wheel based on what Animal was talking about above- a 60's Corvette.

    Yukon Posi vs Detroit TruTrack

Since I'm running a D44 in the front any sort of locker would just be asking for trouble. So that is why I put in a truetrac. It will allow a difference in tire speed as traction is found or lost. Also can always steer. A lot of my offroading is on snow. Lockers make life difficult on off camber...

    Vortec heads vs 350 exhaust.

I had spent a lot of time researching manifolds vs headers when I made my decision. Found some articles that included dyno runs. For the most part the 2.5" ramhorn manifolds were within 5-6 ft/lbs up to about 4,600 RPM. Then some great gains above that RPM. With my 400 or the 383 I have now...

    Vortec heads vs 350 exhaust.

I had ramhorn manifolds on my old 400 and when that engine died I put them on a vortec headed 383. I didn't want to mess with headers either- these cast iron manifolds haven't leaked. Although I'd stay away from the 2.5" center dump- had to have the motor mount clamshell modified for clearance...

    Yukon Posi vs Detroit TruTrack

I have the truetrac in the front of my truck and a friend has it in the rear of his. I'd take it over a posi as there are no "wear parts". Just gears. The gears like conventional oil vs synthetic oil.

Bilstein ,Kyb monotube ,Belltech ....daily driving opinions

I had the Bilstein blue/yellow shocks on my old '78 K15. When I bought my '77 K20 it had the original shocks and I put on the ORD front shackles (OEM ones were bent/worn out) and some KYB monoMAX shocks. At the time these shocks were about 1/2 the price of the Bilstein blue/yellows. I thought...

    TrueTrac for rear axle...likes/dislikes?

After I put a truetrac in the front axle of my truck a friend/co-worker was interested in how I said how I can't tell it is even there. It "feels" like an open differential. So he started reading on them and then installed one on the rear axle of his 2001 Silverado 1500. He tows a snowmobile...

    15" vs 17" wheels

There are some rough formulas online about if you move up a few tire sizes or switch to a heavier load rating of the tire. I've tried some of them, and it was kinda close. But I've used the chalk method to find the proper street pressure. Set the tire pressure, grab some sidewalk chalk and...

    15" vs 17" wheels

I moved up to 17" from 16" as there aren't a whole lot of choices in 16 anymore. And zero beadlock wheels in that size unless it custom made. Might check out prices first though. 15" are cheaper for the most part. At least in General and BFG the 15" were around $50/tire cheaper. And at least...

    15" vs 17" wheels

If you air down the tires for more traction off road then 15" wheels will be a bit nicer. Gives you more sidewall to flex and a bigger footprint.

    NP203... no 4 wheel drive

I kept thinking about my problem... have a hard time thinking that I broke the front output shaft or the chain. My chain has never made the popping noise that is typical with a loose chain skipping teeth. I've been looking at diagrams of the 203 and wondering if it was possible if the shift...

    NP203... no 4 wheel drive

I called a local transmission shop that was recommended by a friend. Been around for something like 37 years. Asked about rebuilding the 203... the guy chuckled and said he can't even remember when the last time they rebuilt one of those. Had no idea if he could get parts. Said most are boat...

    Front Posi/Limited Slip Options

Eaton Truetrac is what I have in the front D44 on my truck. You don't even know it's there compared to an open differential. Perfectly quiet, lets me steer on snow/mud/ice. But transfers power over to the other tire when needed. Its been awesome.
