Alignment and tire pressure question
I know you’ve said this before and I still struggle with the understanding. That’s 1/2” “out of plumb” on a 33” tire. Could see it across the parking lot. Wow! Stunning truck! Regarding gears, depends how you want to drive it, IMO. Big block = enough power to pull even taller gears than 3:73s. 4.1s with 35s is 3k rpms at 70mph. 3:73s better if you’re wanting to put any real miles on at normal freeway speeds. 4.1s ftw for pulling. -

You answered your own question, I’d say. If it runs like it should then the cat isn’t messing anything up. Not sure I’d cut apart a 37 year old exhaust unless I was planning on replacing it.- Grit dog

Parked 17 years can do a lot of damage. You don’t mention replacing brake hoses or checking the lines. If it feel like the fluid is dead ending before the calipers, it probably is. And you mention nothing about rear brakes. Those are likely fubar too. -

Transmission pan gasket replacement
Agree, make sure the pan didn’t get warps by some monkey previously. Then, idk never used a torque wrench (on much of anything except like head gaskets and mains etc). Trans pans, old tin valve covers, tin oil pans etc. all get “wrist snug” with a 1/4 drive ratchet.. lol.- Grit dog

Same with the 86. Had shims under the 4” springs for pinion angle that reduced caster. They were supposed to be I piece but came out like peanut brittle smacked with a hammer….lol. So slapped the zero rates in with no shims, made the pinion worse caster mo betta and it drives the same. Straight...- Grit dog

Run the VIN and then don’t tell the seller. They don’t know or there’d be marketing it as such. I’d disagree if it actually was factory paint. That era of vehicle peeled paint like no other. If you see black factory primer under anything, keep sanding. However this isn’t factory paint and it looks pretty old and just the clear peeling. Clear has to go. Down to base coat. Everywhere...- Grit dog

@geocrasher, looks like a great setup coming together… but desert and uncovered work space just sounds painful to me. At a minimum I’d be thinking about a versa tube type carport or something for shade, not only for working but to park a vehicle or 2 under. The parking space is just me thinking... -

Meh, I’m sure you can get a cheaper one than a Bendpak, but the cost of that quick jack ain’t a whole lot less than a hobby grade 2 or 4 post. JMO. -

Sure, if you’re not actually making the truck body look as nice as when it was new. Doesn’t seem like a good plan in the context of these guys in the thread who appear to be doing major body work and new paint.- Grit dog

@Woodman77 That’s a shame as it looks like someone did a very decent job repainting it at some point. Unfortunately there’s no way to “fix” what’s there without removing it completely and starting over. After that much effort on the affected panels or areas, even if you could color match...- Grit dog

While that was certainly an issue back in the day, 99.9% sure that is not original paint. It could be, I suppose, but that funky pinstripe with the witness marks under the paint from the old original wide striped pinstripe decal and the sagging base coat under the window trim in the door...- Grit dog
