Looking for longer lasting brakes (budget upgrade options?)
IMO the problem isn’t needing heavier duty brake system, it’s either making sure what you have is operating properly or adjusting your driving habits. Think about it. No load (even a couple engine blocks in the bed won’t affect braking much) and the truck won’t stop itself down a mountain...- Grit dog

Are you saying there was a change in the cab floor shape at some point between early model squares and later years? (Besides low or high hump trans tunnel which is more equipment specific than year or gvw specific)- Grit dog

I’m waiting for the day I find the same on the 77. As of now the original pad is nearly perfect with one small crack coming off the speaker perfs, which I drilled a stopper hole in front of (idk whether it will help). I’d love to dye it as it’s faded yet still pliable but no way I’m removing it... -

The point was it should be as free flowing as possible, which the regulator doesn’t technically inhibit as the outlet end is open therefore no pressure regulating occurs. Regulator doesn’t hurt anything in the return line it’s just useless.- Grit dog

Building a system
Door panel or kick panel speakers will obviously make it much louder. I’d give what ya got a try first though and maybe try to get 4” in the dash like bucket said. Good ones will take double the power of the 2.5s at least. 4 Good speakers, enough power, tuned right and a decent sub to keep...- Grit dog

help all terrain tires stock 85 c30 dually
Pretty easy. Measure the gap between your current tires and then subtract the difference from any wider tires you’re considering, to see if they’ll fit without rubbing. Assuming you understand tire sizing. If you don’t, start there.- Grit dog

Just solvent prep them with something not too hot and spray em with any number of available “dyes.” The crispy parts will absorb a lot. But it will harden up the surface a make it more scratch resistant. -

Sounds like a fck load of work for likely not great results. I’d be concerned about the resin eating up that old soft plastic too. -

I just saw this thread and remembered I hadn’t put th new door spring in the 86 yet and it’s actually in the garage not outside in the dark and rain. Wow. Took all of about 5min!!- Grit dog

Trailer tires
D load radials will take the tires out of the equation. That said, if you think it’s the tires making it handle poorly that is largely how much they flex. You can do an easy test and air up your current tires to whatever pressure you think will cure the problem and try it out. They won’t...- Grit dog

Gas tank won’t fill
It sure is nice over here on the Right side of the state. Just filled the 86 up for the fist time since dragging it over here. Standard old fashioned gas nozzles as far as the eye can see. So much nicer- Grit dog

D load has nothing to do with bias or radial. For you trailer rim size you can get C D or E load in pretty much every mfg and flavor of trailer tire. And as @bucket point d out, apparently some F&G load tires as well if you want an obscure brand and bigger tires. (235s)- Grit dog
