Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

Just putting in the original L9H cam back in. I lost VE everywhere below 3k RPM with the stage 1 VVT TSP cam, which is where I really need the most power. The gains above 4500RPM were pretty substantial, but that isn't really what I needed for the suburban. I'm planning on just swapping the cam...

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

I haven't even looked at mine since I swapped it in a few years ago. That was 30k miles ago. I'll have to take them out and look at them when I do the cam swap I guess.

Wow... the entire electrode being gone from that one with only ~30k miles on it is crazy... that shouldn't happen

New Badges for Military Service Members, LEO, FireFighters and EMT

What?? U.S. Space Force is an entirely separate military branch. SpaceX is a private company. Space Force falls under the department of the Air Force, but is not a "Division of the Air Force". There is an overarching "Department of the Air Force" that then has a U.S. Air Force branch and...

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

Actually, this post has pretty good details about the difference between the 41-110 and 41-162. If you managed to find new 41-110, they weren't made lately. AC Delco discontinued them in favor of the 41-162 because they were switching vendors.

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

I think the 41-110 is the same plug as the 41-162, but the 41-110 should have an NGK part number stamped on the lip if it is a genuine plug.

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

It is usually water contamination. I have seen it happen, but it is very rare anymore. It still does happen at airports and has caused several aircraft to crash. The tier of gas isn't really a quality rating, it is more related to the amount of detergent that is in the fuel. The premium tier...

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

Also, if you have any kind of cam in it, you don't need to run premium. I only run higher grade when towing and have not noticed it knocking or kicking down into the low octane tables running cheap grade 87 Octane around town or unloaded on the highway. I have occasionally run mid-grade when...

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

Where did you get the plugs from? Which Delco plug did you use? I had 41-162's in my 5.3 and they would need replacing every 50k miles or so and also had occasional misfire issues. It's getting hard to find genuine ones and they are often just ripoff chinesium. I put in a set of NGK TR-5's from...

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

Actually, now that I looked.... you have a ton of stations around you that have flex fuel and blender pumps. You actually get BETTER fuel mileage with up to 30-40% ethanol content than with straight gas. We only have 4 E85 stations in the entire state of Oregon and because there aren't very many...

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

I know there are a ton of stations in the DFW area, but because gas is so much cheaper for you guys in general, it really is only helpful when towing or very hot. My L9H swap LOVES E85 when towing. It actually gets about the same mileage with E85 as it does with regular gas, and the compression...

Odd "Misfire"? on 2013 Yukon Denali

These Gen IV trucks that were intended for flexfuel use the fuel control module from the CTSV and don't have a return or regulator/bypass. They are direct PWM control of the pump and the pump module can support up to 600+hp on E85. 41-43 is the correct pressure when not running E85. It sounds...

Rough Idle, smells rich, P0171 and P0174 codes on 5.3L

Well... I did tell him the price for the interface. I agree with everything you said though. HP tuners you are paying for the UI and ease of use. Also the RTT with the Gen III PCM's makes it very nice and easy to tune the cruise for peak performance and/or fuel efficiency.

Rough Idle, smells rich, P0171 and P0174 codes on 5.3L

$400 for the full HP tuners package with 2 credits... I get it though. For $80 you can get the OBDXpro VX or spring for a bit more at $140 for the GT to also have ALDL and Tech2Win support. Tunerpro or Universal Patcher then lets you do all the tuning you need to do for free. The HP Tuners...

    Gmt400 cruise control

I don't know if there are any other considerations when switching between major model years like that. My 80 has a tilt column... they were an option in your year range. The late GM cruise switch would be a direct wire in to the GMT-400 style cruise module, no relays required. The rostra stalk...

Rough Idle, smells rich, P0171 and P0174 codes on 5.3L

There are different MAF's... chances are you had the wrong ones for the programming in the PCM. If you don't have the intake piping that the PCM was tuned for it will also be off... just not full rich/lean off. Part of a standard tuning procedure is to tune the MAF once you get the VE map...

    Rochester Q-Jet running rich

I would assume it is working as intended with the choke being applied until warmed up. Did you not do the initial setup of the carburetor after it had been rebuilt? When was the last time that you did a tuneup on the engine(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc...)?

Guage cluster fuse bows when cracking ovee

Make sure they have a solid ground from the engine to the frame. If the engine is not grounded, it could be trying to ground all of that cranking voltage through a bad oil or temp sensor. Those sensors are single wire that ground through the sensor to the block.

    Gmt400 cruise control

The early cruise switch was just a single button. It won't provide the correct signals for a modern cruise control. You could use the factory one if you are ok with only having the "set" feature. The rostra or dakota digital one looks like a factory GM switch and attaches at the factory...

    Gmt400 cruise control

You would only need a rostra or similar cruise stalk, some relays, and a GMT-400/600/800 module that can attach to your carb. The only hard part will be getting a VSS signal. What transmission do you currently have?

Just how much of a moron am I?

My TH400 has the partial vin stamped on the transmission right above the pan rail on the passenger side. It is that way on my 1980 K25 and on the 67 Buick Riviera TH400's. They stopped doing that at some point, but it was still being done in 1980 at least.

Just how much of a moron am I?

They don't call it a 350C, but it does list the 3sp automatic option for both the 305 and heavy duty trucks. If you have MX1 on your RPO sheet and it was originally a 305, you would have gotten the TH350C. MX0 would mean it originally had the 700R4. I think 85 was the last year for that...

Let's see those 4x4 Squares On Dirt!

It's not a state regulation. State regulation is that you can't shoot 30 minutes before official sunrise or 30 minutes after official sunset. This area is within a hunting unit, but is private land owned by a timber company that is gated. They open the gates during hunting season to allow...

Let's see those 4x4 Squares On Dirt!

I think so. It is just closed to motorized travel. We will likely use mountain bikes this year to at least get in closer, but it is pretty heavily forested area with some major elevation. You are usually only a few hundred yards away form any area accessible to mountain bikes, but it could be a...
