    Multiple antennas!!!

I use to be big into CB radio. I still occasionally play around with them. I have never gotten very good performance from the radio/cb antenna combination. Like many things in life, “multi function” means it does many jobs, just not excelling at any of them. If you want the best performance...

    Electronic Trans Swap

If the sniper 2 will control a 4L60E, then that’s the cheapest option since you already have it. The bellhousing bolt pattern is the same. I’d get with a custom converter builder, I have no clue what would be involved in adapting a late model trans to an old school engine.

    Electric Choke Conversion

another idea, slip hose vacuum hose over the ends of the mixture screws. Home made handles!!

    Electric Choke Conversion

Take the original mixture screws out, clamp them in a vise (use a couple pieces of wood to protect the threads) and carefully cut a groove in the head to allow adjustment with a “ “primative” screwdriver.

    Ignition timing

Give the engine what it wants, not what you think it needs. Most engines like 34-36 degrees of mechanical advance, plus another 10-15 degrees of vacuum advance. For now, disconnect the vacuum and concentrate on the initial and centrifugal advance. Be prepared to spend lots of time playing...

    HEI Modules

Same here, I have had a few modules that would die when the engine got really hot, then restart when cold. But I have only had one outright fail. The early HEI modules did have some issues. DELCO quickly figured out the issue. But the reputation remains. Get a good DELCO or quality...

Headlights only work when I press the dimmer button

Either that, or both bulbs and/or related wiring is the issue.

    HEI Modules

The Delco 990 modules are considered the “performance” module. I have no clue what makes them special. It’s mention on the Buick, Pontiac and Chevelle forums.

    Th400 wont go into 3rd

Unplug the electrical connector near the shift linkage. If it goes into 3rd, the kickdown switch is defective or not adjusted correctly.

    Alternator BAT Wire Gauge

The wire size needed depends on the current and distance. For a stripped down truck with a 42 amp alternator, a 10-12 charge wire is probably adequate. If the alternator is higher capacity, then a 8 gauge would be a good idea.

    Again, An Oil Pressure Querry

Before doing anything, look over the wiring harness around the back of the engine. Make sure nothing is damaged or rubbing on anything. The oil pressure wire is dark blue if I remember correctly. More than likely the sending unit is starting to fail. Replacing it would be the easiest, and most...

    Faulty light/dimmer switch? Need help.

Pull the dash light fuse, see if that eliminates the problem. If so, I’m guessing you have the ecm wake up wire on a dash light circuit. If that doesn’t solve the issue, pull the taillight fuse. You don’t need a relay to power the wake up wire for the ecm. It takes very little voltage and...

    Smoke From Center Vent

More than likely the blower motor is failing as well. The motor is drawing more current than it should, but not enough to blow the fuse. The added current is heating up the wiring and switch. Inspect the plug for the blower resistor and relay for signs of excessive heat.

High horn not working on a 1981 C10 Silverado

I’m cheap. I got horns from big land yacht Cadillacs for all my vehicles with defective horns. Sometimes it took a little bending, cutting or welding to adapt the mounting brackets. I despised the puny horn that was on my beater daily driver Neon. With the Cadillac Fleetwood horns, I can sound...

    1988 Suburban CRUISE CONTROL HELP!

Wow! They have gone way up in price. As common as these trucks are, I’d think you could price together a cruise system fairly cheaply. Depends on how patient you are.

    1988 Suburban CRUISE CONTROL HELP!

I have used the Rostra aftermarket cruise on non cruise equipped trucks. As long as the truck has a VSS, it will work. The speed signal wire will plug into the same connector cavity as a factory cruise setup. You then need to set the programming switches on the Rostra box to be able to interpret...

    1988 Suburban CRUISE CONTROL HELP!

That would explain why it’s unplug. Th400 don’t have a lockup converter.

    1988 Suburban CRUISE CONTROL HELP!

Indeed, that’s the cruise control box. if you follow the harness that plugs into that box, you should find the vaccum hose and brake switch connector. The connector with the pink/purple wires should plug into a brake switch. That’s for the TCC, assuming the truck has a 700 trans.

    1988 Suburban CRUISE CONTROL HELP!

There is a jumper harness that goes between the square connector and the cruise servo. There are 2 vacuum lines, the smaller line is the supply line from the engine. There should be a round storage ball somewhere under the hood, there will be a check valve between the storage tank and the...

Signal Generator to replace VSS ( Frequency) 87 Chev Scottsdale

As common as these trucks are, I would think it should be easy to find a good used one. No clue if the aftermarket part would “speak” the same language as the OEM.

Worthwhile to convert from TBI to Quadrajet?

I think takes a 1 1/8 inch wrench to remove, it’s easy. Unplug the harness, break it loose and it comes right out. Spray a bunch of carb cleaner in the bore, soak a rag with carb cleaner and wipe off the IAC plunger, thread it back in. This is somewhat routine maintenance that’s easy to...

Worthwhile to convert from TBI to Quadrajet?

Look for a vacuum leak at the throttle body. Remove the IAC valve, throughly clean the IAC bore and the plunger on the end of the valve. It may be caked full of carbon. The biggest flaw with TBI engines is people screwing around with them when they have no clue what they are doing.

    Holley sniper

Yes, it’s the original sniper. The handheld controller will be included. I don’t know what the cfm rating is, I know they will support 650hp. I have a friend that is a Holley dealer/tuner/installer. Supposedly the factory injectors are the limiting factor, around 680ish you start to run out...

    Holley sniper

I think I’m finally going to get around to swapping the 4L80 into the Olds this winter. I have had the transmission for a couple years, I have been dragging my feet. There aren’t enough hours in the day, I’m hesitant to take apart the car since it runs and drives. What does the 4l80 swap have...
