    What to keep? Sbc questions

The interior of this is absolutely trashed. Judging from the condition of the seats, door panels, and the fact that both “Oh ****!” handles are torn out of the roof, I would not be the least bit surprised if the previous owner weighed 450 plus pounds. I have never seen a seat a broken down and...

    What to keep? Sbc questions

There is a plate bolted to the block where a mechanical pump would normally go. I assume this means one could unbolt the plate and install the parts for a conventional pump?

    What to keep? Sbc questions

I haven’t found the intake, looks like everything under the hood including the throttle body is there.

    What to keep? Sbc questions

Number one son bought a 94 blazer for cheap. It’s been seriously abused and beat, but has some neat parts/options that will eventually find its way onto his Yukon. I’m not very fluent in sbc stuff. Are any of the later model pass side dipstick blocks desirable? Are any 4 bolt mains? If I...

    Carb Swap?

Besides people not understanding how they operate, unfortunately you can’t fix decades of wear and tear with a cheap autozone rebuild kit and a can of carb cleaner. The engine will never run right if the throttle shaft bores are worn out. People never remove the air bleeds to clean out the...

    Carb Swap?

Try closer to 40 years!! The “good” Q-Jets started in the early 70s, and production ending in 1990.

    No brake lights

Push and pull the hazard light button on column a few times, see if that changes anything. Still no brake lights? Find the brake switch, check for power on the orange wire. If it has power, push the brake pedal, check for power on the WHITE wire. No power, replace the switch or make sure it’s...

    T/L CTSY fuse keeps blowing

Put a larger fuse than is specified, you will need some of this!! Disconnect the battery, remove the bolt that holds the firewall electrical connector to the fuse box. There are 3 separate plugs, the smallest of the 3 is the taillight harness. Remove that plug from the bundle, plug in the other...

    Dash lights not working

GM used that headlight switch for probably 50 years of car and truck production. I find it difficult to believe not one part store has one in stock. AutoZone’s part number is SW141. I would think orielly, Napa, or any of the other parts stores could find an interchange number for that.

1985 K20. Need inspection to get tags. How to wire external horn button?

The ground trigger in the column is a black wire. Start at the relay in the convenience center. Unplug it, test for power on the orange wire. If you have power, use a fused jumper wire to jump power from the orange wire to the dark green, the horn should sound. Next, test for continuity from...

it worked - trans was 'choking' engine at stop....

More than likely the solenoid is sticking. Once the pan is off it’s an easy fix.

    1984 Silverado Radio Harness Question

Pretty sure you will need to add that wire to your existing harness since GM never offered power antenna or amps in the trucks. I think this is the terminal, maybe Napa can get one? I believe there is a wire pinout diagram stamped on the radio case.

    1984 Silverado Radio Harness Question

Use the dome light or cigarette lighter power feed, it will be an orange wire. The antenna wire on a GM radio is a trigger wire, it only has power on it with the radio on.

    Interior parts 92 Yukon

Good Lord, the late 80s/ early 90s were definitely the dark years of GM interiors!!! Everything we touch breaks on this truck! Looking for good door panels (specifically the pull handles), passenger front armrest (the part that contains the power window switch) passenger side A pillar trim, and...

1986 K30 Silverado Torque converter question

I did a 455 Olds swap on my dads 81 GMC, replacing the olds 350 diesel. The engine is basically stock from an early 70 land yacht. If I had known then what I know know, I would have definitely replaced the factory diesel converter and governor with a gas engine parts. The diesel converter is...

    Unusual radio issue

Great big steaming piles of horse excrement!! Took apart and cleaned the bulkhead connector, didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Tidied up some wiring under the dash, didn’t really change anything other than routing to make service easier. Reassembled everything, and now everything works...

87' Chevy c10 instrument lights not working.

Do the taillights work? Check for power on the 4 amp fuse with the headlights on, and the dimmer turned all the way up. No power and the taillights work? Pull the headlight switch and check for power supply n the green wire of the headlight switch. No power? Replace the switch.

    TH400 Information Thread

Drop the pan again, look at the dipstick. The “Full” mark should be level with where the pan and case meet. When you replaced the filter, did you remove the filter tube from the case? There is a Oring that seals the tube to the case, if it’s missing or damaged the pump will suck air instead of...

    3-4 harsh shift 4l80e

I would expect slightly delayed shifts when cold. GM programmed the shift characteristics like that for a reason, they want the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter to get to operating temp as quickly as possible.

    WTF horn issue

Find the black wire in the turn signal switch connector. Ground that wire, the horn should sound. If so, the problem is definitely in the column. If not, you have problems over and beyond the missing parts

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Iacocca mentions in the book the The Deuce was not happy about the Chrysler presidency. His thoughts were most people retire and hang out on a golf course, never to be heard from again. Iacocca was motivated, Ford was paying him a lot of money to go to work to kick their ass. If anyone has any...

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Read Lee Iacocca biography, he discusses how painful it was to sell the tank contract. I’m paraphrasing because it’s been several years since I read the book, but he explains that by selling the contract for the tanks, he was giving up a guaranteed 600 million in profit, in a market that by...

    actuator rod

In my case, I had no clue if a OEM rod was even available to accommodate what I was doing. I mixed and match parts to build the column the way I wanted, with the features and look I was after. I also quickly learned there are lots of different “families” of column parts that don’t play well...
