Headers? worth the effort & cost?

    Everywhere over manifolds.

What have you done to your square lately??

No keeping the carbs just swapping in the Bug catcher and adaptor that takes a filter element in place of the velocity stacks so I can run without the hood scoop. The stacks even with filters and lids can collect water and is the only reason I have the hood scoop in the first place. And was the...

    Need real-world exhaust advise

The issue I see is anything stock under 3000 isn't really grunting against the absorber and probably won't show anything that might be considered outside of margin of error as far as a dyno is concerned.

Push through Center caps on Rally wheels

Almost any steel factory style wheel is going to be hub centric both 4 and 2 wheel drive and fit the hubs with just enough clearance they don't take any force to install/remove but no space to install any center cap that fits from the back side. Aftermarket wheels are a different story.

    Need real-world exhaust advise

A resonator or even a glass pack/race bullet the 12-18" ones will deepen the tone of any muffler in the system that's mounted after it. Did this a lot on 4- and 6-cylinder engines that sounded too raspy.

    Need real-world exhaust advise

I was surprised how well the single 3" exhaust with the straight thru muffler did on a 400+HP engine. Tells me my 3" dual setup with that style muffler was the right call as far as my build is concerned.

What have you done to your square lately??

Picked up a bug catcher and filter adapter (both shown in pic) and cable kit (not shown) from Alkydigger to mount in place of the velocity stacks. I want to do away with the hood scoop. Edit: Yes, it is the real deal not one of those toys most places sell as a carb scoop this has the 8...

Headers? worth the effort & cost?

Long tubes increase low and mid range power due to improved scavenging at low rpm. They also allow the engine to carry longer up top before rolling over. On another note the longer the collector or area after the collector (up to around 18") the bigger the increase. This is why drag racers run...

Does this head/rocker setup need guide plates?

5/16 diameter push rod and a set of guide plates at .450 lift I don't think there would be an issue as long as you've got the correct length pushrod.

Does this head/rocker setup need guide plates?

Need guide plates unless you have self alighning rockers that have the ears on the body or narrow section cut in the wheel to keep them on the valve tip.

The 4 bolt main LIE !!! Or is it???

I've noticed a few trends in the car influencer space in recent years. Probably why I can't watch most of it. It seems anything old school is either not understood or isn't trendy so it's crap or doesn't work. Also, your nothing unless your making 4 digits on the street. Ever notice the amount...

Question for those with QA1 front end

Fender wells? Don't need no stinking fender wells. :peace: Mines not QA1 mine is all CPP stuff but the aftermarket stuff is basically in the same places as the stock stuff and cleared all the adjustments and grease fittings fine but removed mine when I went to the fender well headers rather...

First climb under the rear with a magnet and a pocket screwdriver and poke and prod around, a ton of these cars are junk in the back half unibody section. Get in there and look for filler especially if its painted or under coated under there. I ran into a ton of these with gallons of filler...

How well should compression hold the truck?

You don't want to rely on the parking pawl of an auto to hold it in place either this 1/4" square piece (in red) is what holds my truck in my Powerglide and the spring in green is what keeps it held in place by "wedging" itself between the lever and the other casting in this pic which allows the...

    Castor shims

Ignore that this image is for a Jeep it was the best image of this I could find. The downside as you add positive castor or raise the vehicle the drive shaft angle changes (the pinion lowers). So, this diff with a decent lift to correct the drive shaft angle would need to have positive castor...

    Castor shims

Depending on what is already built into the axle but typicly yes with the axle and shim under the spring thick forward is negative thick to the rear is posative. This is posative

    Castor shims

Positive would-be lower ball joint farther forward than the top so thick end at the front if axle on top, and at the rear if spring on top.

    Fuel flooding crank case

Are you sure it was new you'd be surprised how many items get sold and dumped back on the shelf after being returned a day or two later when someone discovers the swap didn't fix their issue and it gets passed on to be the next guy's problem. I have found this to be common with a lot of...

    Castor shims

Positive makes it less likely to want to wander with road imperfections or less twitchy with minute inputs also will want to straighten itself with no input other than forward movement. The more positive it is the faster it will try to return to straight but may make it feel heavier to steer...

    400sb flex plate torque spec

Almost forgot should be 1/8" between converter and flex plate with the converter fully seated in the front of the trans if there is say 3/16" you'll need to add a washer or shim to make up the 1/16" at each bolt so you only pull the converter forward (away from the trans) an 1/8" to contact the...

    Dipstick tube BS

Are you using the tube for a 700r4 and small block that uses the middle bolt or the proper 4l60e/LS version that mounts to the top bolt and bends out away from the firewall and points forward. Like this. I ask because the 700r4 version fits but doesn't bolt to the trans as it is I believe...
