Coolant leak returned. FFS! Drive didn’t happen.

    Factory tach

My LMC tach kit did not come with anything but the brown wire to plug into the tach slot on the distributor. No filter or resistor that I can see, and as far as I can tell, it either doesn’t need it or there was some kind or work around internally for it because as is, mine has been flawless.

Thanks! Thats the plan. Trying for first drive tomorrow :favorites37:

I had one but returned it, to many reports of them failing open when they don’t need to.

So the new manifold gaskets are on. I used regular ultra grey around the water ports, and just a little aviation sealer around the intake ports. Changing the distributor didn’t change a thing. But after putting on the new gaskets and leaning out the carb, it seems to be running on all 8. The...

That depends on whether your springs and your retainer to valve guide clearance will put up with it at the installed height.

    Sealing intake manifold?

@Ricko1966 i found some solder in the garage. Taped it vertically I a handful of spots and lightly tightened it down. It’s not bad- the greater tolerance falls at the top, not the valley side. I’m getting about .010-.015 difference on a couple- some, equal. Considering the gasket is .125 thick...

What approximate size would they be? Probably wouldn’t want any bigger than .125. Thanks for that offer!

    Sealing intake manifold?

So maybe no gasket, hang a couple strands of solder vertically down the surface and clamp it? I like the idea.

    Sealing intake manifold?

@Ricko1966 I at least know this- the 1206 gasket that Brodix recommends was a no go. The manifold sat so low that it would barely seal at all. I did not even try with them. I found out about that FelPro makes a thicker version of the same gasket, the 1266 that effectively raises up the...

    Sealing intake manifold?

Good idea, thanks bud. What I’m picking up is that will show if the china wall is parallel to the end of the manifold on the horizontal plane and then also how much clearance I have on the other side (no gasket).

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

Ok, well, first off, do you think it’s possible that the corner bolts not clamping enough could cause enough lift to make the intake ports not seal? I do have a wide band but as long as I’ve had the Edelbrock when you’re revving it out of gear, it’s consistently running on the transition slots...

    Sealing intake manifold?

Well, I never got a final answer from the shop, because he was aiming for 5 thousandths in the hole. So if stock is 25 , then that would mean .020?

    Sealing intake manifold?

@hogdaddy Heads are Brodix IK 200. Performer RPM intake. Brodix recommends FelPro 1206, but when I fit tested them, they are too thin for the combination and the intake sat so low it wouldn’t seal at the top of the intake ports very well. So I used FelPro 1266 and that much improved the...

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

Thanks! I refer to that when I get it running again. So one problem was that the ARP intake manifold bolts were too long for the front blind holes on the head. They were bottoming before the clamping force was applied. So there is that. One thing I noticed though was that the intake manifold...

    Sealing intake manifold?

I might try some washers under the corner bolts and see if I can get a little more oomph on them. I think you’re onto something.

    Sealing intake manifold?

Ok, I’ll try again then. My corner holes are blind, just checked. Even still, I put ARP thread sealant on every bolt and it still leaked. I’m kinda stumped, I’ve never had one fight me like this before. I had ultra grey on both sides of the gasket on the water passages.

Detroit Speed Engineering versus UMI front coils.

What was the drive feel like? Did one feel significantly softer than the other? FWIW, a lot of guys like myself run a 60 series front tire and the DSE wouldn’t have as much tuck. Here’s my CPP front 2.5” spring and 2.5” drop spindle on 255/60/15.

    Sealing intake manifold?

What do you guys prefer as far as intake RTV? I had an intake leak at all four corners and maybe in the intake ports as well since I have a miss that I can’t find the cause of. The water jackets had ultra grey on both sides. I can’t see any interruption in the RTV where it was bolted down, on...
