    Intermittent power issues

I’ve explained this in a couple other threads, but here are the high points. - electrical part of the ignition switch is at the bottom of the column, about where it goes through the dash. There are no electrical contacts up near the physical ignition switch. - when you turn the keyed...

    Header hell

I initially used stock iron exhaust manifolds with my Blueprint heads, and had to grind them a little on number 7 to get the spark plug boot on. I used ceramic boot plug wires on all cylinders just in case. Swapped to Sanderson headers and the fit was much easier. However, they are shorty...

    Ac brackets and locations

The original brackets for the A6 compressor are really sturdy, since it was about as heavy as a small boat anchor. They also get in the way of everything on top of the driver’s side valve cover. You can drop in a new Pro6Ten aftermarket compressor, which is aluminum with the exact same form...

    Steering stabilizer... Nope, tie rod

I agree with the drag link ends nomenclature, but have also seen some parts references call them inner tie rods. IMHO that’s not correct, but I’ve seen it.

    Steering stabilizer... Nope, tie rod

Take a look at the pictures on the LMC site and use them for a reference. The exact configuration of tie rods, stabilizer bar, and shock changes a little over the years. https://www.lmctruck.com/steering/steering-controls/cc-1973-87-steering-controls-4wd For example, many use a long bar...

1976 Silverado C10 Fuel Pump needed

I you have a fuel pump with two barbed connections and one threaded connection for the steel line to the carburetor, you definitely have a fuel return line, not a vent. It should work to use two 3 port solenoids, or maybe you just cap off the return line. The return line allows warm/hot...

1976 Silverado C10 Fuel Pump needed

I think he means the fuel solenoid that switches between tanks. The original one for your truck had either 3 ports (fuel pump does not have a return line) or six ports (if your fuel pump has a return line). The 3 port solenoids are still available, but the six port solenoid from 1976 was a...

How to identify my Rochester carb? '84 GMC, 305

AFAIK, the HCD code is meaningless for referencing a carb kit. The carb number (17084226) is what counts.

    Intermittent shutoff

Just a guess, but it might be an issue with the toothed rack and rod on the ignition switch. The end of the key switch is a gear, and it moves a toothed “rack”. The rack then pulls a rod up and down the column. Near the bottom of the column is the electrical ignition switch. The rack is...

    Campfire smoke? | Concern

Glad you found the problem. I had similar symptoms when I didn’t get the polylock torqued correctly on two valves. Valve adjustment loosened up so much that I was getting no power out of one cylinder. I learned the value of using a torque wrench to verify.

Vacuum line issues on my 305 C10

Remember that the original idle screws have a double-d head, so you need a tool designed to fit that head. The tool is not expensive, but its only useful for turning idle screws. When I ordered a rebuild kit from Cliff Ruggles it came with new idle screws that can be turned with a flat tip...

Vacuum line issues on my 305 C10

One way to find leaks is to get a can of starting fluid and carefully spray it where you think there might be a leak. The vacuum leak will usually suck in the fluid and the engine speed will go up. One of the black lines in your diagram is the one coming from manifold vacuum, and I would...

1980 K20 Transmission Mount and Skid Plate help

Skid plates were available, but not a very common factory option. What transmission and transfer case do you have? I think it matters for skid plate mounting.

Vacuum line issues on my 305 C10

Take a picture from further out that shows where all those lines go, and to what device. Also get a picture of your emissions sticker and hose routing diagram.

    Remote Oil Filter

O2 should be vertical, or up to about 30 degrees tilted off vertical, so moisture does not collect on the sensor. Usually you want to tilt it 30 degrees in one direction so you have more working space between the exhaust pipe and the floorboards.

5 lug wheel where to buy

When I lived “somewhere in Texas” it took about 5 minutes in a Pick and Pull or one phone call to the yard to find a Chevy truck wheel. Where are you looking?

    1976 C20 AC Pressure Switch

The stock setup on my ‘75 is a low pressure switch, and I don’t think they ever used a high pressure switch with R12, Freon. High pressure switch was often recommended for an R134a conversion, but I’m not sure it’s really needed. My A/C pressures with R134 are never higher than about mid to...

    Engine/Trans help

I have a GM crate 350 and I added Blueprint heads, so no other parts from Blueprint. I was able to fit stock iron manifolds the first time around, but had to do some grinding around #7 plug, and use ceramic boots to protect the wires. I then switched to Sanderson CC17 headers, which bolted...

Let's talk one man brake bleeder

I used the Motive power bleeder on my BMW and it worked really well. I had to get the version with a cap that screwed onto the BMW brake reservoir, but other than that it was very simple. Just add brake fluid to the container and pressurize it, and then crack the bleeder at each wheel...

    Defroster without AC

The box under the hood has two key electrical components. - The resistor pack for lower blower speeds is inserted into the plenum (held with two screws) and it uses the dash switch to provide the lower speeds on the dash switch. If you have no low speeds, start there with troubleshooting. -...

    Issue after crossover steering installation

Exactly how did you bleed it? You are supposed to have it jacked up with both front wheels off the ground, and then slowly turn the wheels full lock to lock about 10 times. I’m not sure how much difference it makes if you leave the wheels on the ground, but it definitely works the pump...

    Weird problem with hazard lights

Orange wire should be a constant hot that does not require the ignition to be on. Are the turn signal and hazard flashers the same? If they are, try switching them around and see if that helps. Flashers do go bad. If it’s an original mechanical flasher it’s a really simple device with a...

    82 GMC sierra C15 Inline 6 to 454 swap?

I will add to my comments. One very good reason to choose a 454 is if you are towing, or hauling a heavy load that requires a lot of low end torque. You can get good horsepower out of an SBC, but for torque you can’t beat what you get out of BB displacement.
