    Good dishwasher in garage

Just remember to follow directions for the drain hose routing. It comes out of the bottom of the dishwasher and loops up to a level just under a countertop, and then goes down to the P-trap. It pumps the water up and over the high hump and gravity carries it down into the P-trap and the drain.

    New wheels and tire question

Our older 8 lug wheels are lug centric, and as long as the bolt pattern is right they will fit. However, some newer wheels are hub centric, so they must have a center hole that fits exactly on the hub. I don’t know what type was used on a 2001 Silverado.

    Preferred SBC intake manifold bolts?

It’s been so long since I’ve had an iron intake that I don’t remember if it had washers. Directions for the Edelbrock intake definitely said to use washers, and at least two of the end bolts also had the engine lifting eyes to spread the bolt load. It was my 2nd/current Edelbrock where the...

    Preferred SBC intake manifold bolts?

Also pay attention to the bolt length you use for the ends of the manifold. The middle bolts go through the head flange into the oil galley, so every book reminds you that they need RTV to keep from wicking up oil. But they don’t remind you that the end bolts go into blind holes. If the 4 end...

    L31 vs TBI 454 Swap

I would go with the TBI 454 because it’s in running condition and you can see and hear it run. Swapping a 454 into a squarebody is a straightforward job, so all you need to figure out is what needs to be modified to adapt the old fuel system and electronics in your truck to the new. Since...

    Exhaust Manifold Help

Several of the Vintage Air brackets appear to be the same design as various Alan Grove brackets. I used Alan Grove brackets with my stock iron manifolds when I mounted a Sanden compressor, and then later switched to a different Alan Grove bracket (which had spacers to allow for the difference...

    350 to 454 swap questions

My 350 has the stock steel bladed fan, factory shroud, severe duty fan clutch, Robert Shaw high flow water pump, and high flow 195 degree thermostat. Temps are completely stable, with only minor differences under load or with A/C on. If you can find the factory fan and shroud for the 454, I...

    Help identifying – dash wiring

In a GM vehicle, black (or white) wires with no stripe are grounds. If disconnected they will cause some accessory to not work properly. .

How to turn a half ton into a 3/4 ton?

Wouldn’t it be easier to keep your 3/4 ton frame, and just move the good 1/2 ton cab and bed over? Moving the bed is simple, and moving the cab should not be much harder. The only complication is to make sure the cab is for a 4WD so that it’s has the high floor hump to clear the transfer...

How challenging is replacing brake master cylinder?

Also make sure you have flare nut wrenches for the brake lines where they attach to the booster. They are going to be tight, and a regular open end wrench won’t have enough bite to get them off without rounding the edges. If you try using vice grips or pliers you may distort the nut or fitting...

    Gas tank won’t fill

Easy reason for your confusion. On my ‘75 the right side tank is primary. However, at some point (not sure of the year), the left side became primary. The angle on the metal tube of my tank fillers is at a very flat angle and the gas backs up to the pump shutoff. I always have to set the gas...

    NP 203 Transfer case Chain HV009 GM#13433

Milemarker used to also sell a chainsaver kit, which was used to take the slack out of a stretched chain. However, I don’t know exactly how it worked, and it’s disappeared from all the parts catalogs online.

    Alternating hazard lights

Th3re is an instrument panel ground up under the dash, and each light housing has a ground. Clean them up (sand ground point to bare metal) and tighten, and I think you will solve the problem. Another simple item to check is that all the dual filament bulbs (tail/turn, etc) are in the...

    Cab Mount help

I used the Energy Suspension poly bushings. They changed cab height a little, but really just brought it back into alignment. They give you some thin goo to lubricate them, but even with that they were noisy (squeaky) for the first few months while they settled in. I would lubricate the...

    Erratic shifting/Hunting for Gear TH350

Replaced part of the vacuum line? Do you have a steel vacuum line with a short section of rubber line on each end to connect to the modulator and manifold vacuum? Too much rubber line may cause it to collapse under vacuum or wherever there is a kink in it. It should connect to the intake...

    Dana 44 front differential vent

Mine had a hole with a hose nipple pressed in, and it had popped out of the hole. I used JB weld on it, pressed it in firmly, and it’s been that way for at least 20 years.

    Bone stock 85 305 upgrade

Start out with determining a rough budget. Then price out a 350 or 383 roller block, and either Vortec iron or aftermarket aluminum heads. This should be your starting point for upgrading. - A Vortec or aftermarket aluminum head will outperform any camel hump or other gee-whiz head from the...

    NP203 removal and rebuild

IIRC, my ‘75 K25 has brackets like in the diagram, and they are riveted to the frame. They would not just fall off. Are yours nor bolted or riveted on? I need to do some other work on/under the truck today and I’ll see if I can get a picture.

NP203 fluid and which driveline oils confirmation

A Gov-Lock differential is different inside, but I don't know how to tell from the outside. I think you will have to pull the cover and look at it. With GM positraction differentials (does it also work with a G80?) you can determine if it is a Posi by jacking up both wheels and turning one...

NP203 fluid and which driveline oils confirmation

Your 14 bolt is probably a G80 Gov Lock, which operates differently than a true LSD. The G80 has a centrifugal mechanism inside that spins with the differential, and then physically moves to lock the axles if the rpm difference between axles is about 200-300 rpm. It is more of a “farmers”...

    Detent Cable adjustment?

Assume it’s a TH350. If it’s a TH400 or 700R4 overdrive, this does not apply. If you look at the picture in Post #2, in the center of the black piece you will see the center section of it that pops up. -Use a small flat tip screwdrive on each side, and gently pop that center section of the...

    Let’s talk PCV systems.

I will go out on a limb and say a catch can is not usually needed on an SBC with properly installed PCV system. There’s are 100s of thousands of stock and modified SBC engines without a catch can, and most are still working fine. You do need a proper oil baffle under the PCV in the valve...

NP203 fluid and which driveline oils confirmation

GM recommended using 30W or 10/30 oil in the NP203. I use 10/30 full synthetic. The stock NP203 is a full-time 4WD (or AWD) transfer case, with a front/rear differential built into the transfer case. In the Lo-Loc or Hi-Loc positions it locks the case differential and gives you conventional...

    Steering Gearbox Differences

You also have to pay attention to the steering shaft connection if you have an early 70’s truck. For example, my ‘75 has a different shaft connection than later boxes, so you can’t do the jeep steering shaft conversion and get rid of the rag joint. I’m not sure what year they started using...

LED Tail lights now slow blinkers

Bimetallic (old school) relays rely on having enough current through them so that the two metals inside expand differently and make the clicker go back and forth. The TS switch runs current through the TS relay and the turn signal lights come on. The flowing current eventually makes the...
