    Howard’s 3/8 pushrods

Howdy all, After 1000 miles, we pulled heads on our 454 rebuild and went to an aluminum head. This caused our pushrod length to be different. As a result, here are a set of Howard’s cam 3/8 pushrods up for grabs that I can no longer use! Perfect condition! Howard’s 95107 3/8 7.550 length...

    BBC heads??

Thanks! The rpm intake that we have on the engine (and fuel injection) will merry up much better than these small peanut ports. How much, we will see this week. We also are running long tubes and 2.5” stainless x piped exhaust all the way back.

    BBC heads??

I ended up going with the afr 265cc 109cc chamber. Should get my compression to 9.5:1 https://www.airflowresearch.com/265cc-bbc-oval-port-cylinder-head/p603?srsltid=AfmBOoqj_zcXFp52gm8RB2x7ImppQIQAZmnWU9VBPGMH6voM609SO_Da

    BBC heads??

Howdy all! After my latest valve seal debacle, I want to put some aluminum heads on my suburban. Which will be best for towing and low to mid range torque (plus street fun)? I’m punched out to 461ci with an rpm air gap and sniper II. Here is my cam...

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

Found the issue. Scoped the intake today to look at valves. Holy smokes did these build up quick in 1000 miles.

Put in the break in oil today, man it’s smoking after post acceleration. Can’t post videos here or else I would.

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

I’m running gp1 10w30 and we never used break in oil . I contacted them today and they gave me this response: That Vr1 isn’t a great break in oil at all. The Gp1 will help but it may take some time. Really loading the engine will assist with ring seat if that is the issue. Don’t worry, I’ve run...

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

Is it possible to burn it but not see it? It does have a burning oil smell but no smoke. I’m assuming it would be blowing tons and tons of blue smoke if it was eating oil. This is what the plugs look like:

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

What’s weird about my situation is the engine is blowing no smoke at all and running great. Just keeps drinking a half to 3/4 a quart ever 300-400 miles. I guess I’ll try to get this thing to 2000 miles and see what happens. The machine shop said they’ll back their work if something is wrong...

Not sure. They put it all together as a long block. I supplied all the parts.

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

Engine shop said they will back their work so I’m not worried about that. Just the hassle and expense of ripping this engine out and being down again. What are your thoughts on moving to the heavier oil? The machine shop did mention they don’t like synthetics (this Howard’s recommended oil is a...

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

Howdy all, We had our 454 pulled and rebuilt in the c20 suburban. We used king bearings throughout and converted to a hydraulic roller setup through Howard’s Cams. The engine was bored .030 over to 461 cubic inches. So far I’ve put around 1000 miles on it and it’s consuming around .5 to 1...

Thinking about a new smaller steering wheel, comfort grip or forever sharp?

Howdy all! I’m thinking about a new steering wheel for the suburban. Do any of you prefer the comfort grip over forever sharp wheels or vice versa? I like that the sharp wheel is 14” but is the comfort grip better quality? Looking to go to wood grip...

Transgo kit 1&2 vs SK 400

Well the transmission seems to shift well and run Nick, We got the newly rebuilt trans together and it’s shifting great. One thing to note is that we ran the trans lines to the internal radiator cold case trans cooler and then to the external auxiliary. We also piped in an autometer temp...
