Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

I would love a 4-post but this is why I won't ever have one unless I win the big jackpot. They're nearly 2-3 times a 2-poster by the time you add in all the accessories and I'd need them all. And if I win the big jackpot, I'll still have a 2-post along side the 4-poster just cuz they're so useful

Fix this Paint? Any ideas that I do not have to repaint the whole Suburban?

I say base coat, it's single stage under there. They cleared the truck when they cut it down cuz the flipper I bought the truck from loves clearcoated patina

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

If quick jacks will do everything you need, then it doesn't really matter too much. But for what those cost, I'd absolutely rather pony up the extra bit to have a real 2-post so I'm never limited on what I can or can't do. If you do go with a traditional 2 post, my vote would be putting the lift...

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

I agree with the machinist. Even though Blueprint has a good rep and we know those guys, bad engines still get out the door. I've read enough horror stories over the years that I don't think I'd ever take the chance on a crate engine, no matter the platform, it's not worth the hassle if...

Fix this Paint? Any ideas that I do not have to repaint the whole Suburban?

My truck is doing the same thing, the clear is slowly flaking off. I'm just letting it do it's thing. I'll go back and polish the uncovered areas and flake it back to where the clear is more solid so it looks decent. Then it'll go a while and grow some more, I'll do it all over again. Hoping...

Bench seat with floor shifter..to console or not..

'Nother vote for that classic console^ I had that one plus another on the floor for a long time. Snowden Seats made the one on the floor, it just wedges between the floor and the seat, not sure if it would be in the way of your shifter though

What new tools have you got lately?

I love those cable cutters. My buddy bought some for cutting braided fuel line and I had to get some after that cuz they worked so good

Just how much of a moron am I?

Yep, 700R4 became available in '82 for the 305 and at some point after that for the 6.2 diesel. But for standard, light duty trucks, the 350 was the default. And there was no rhyme or reason further than just how they were ordered. My truck was absolutely loaded to the gills, even having the...

Just how much of a moron am I?

350C was the standard trans, 700R4 was the optional one until '87

    Nothing works

I would start checking grounds first. There's usually a buss bar with grounds on it somewhere around the left side of the gauges on the inside hinge pillar/kick panel area. If those seem ok, it could be a headlight switch or some chafed/rubbed through wiring that's grounding out under the dash

    LS 6.0 Runability Issue

Holy cow!! That's a new level of screwing someone over

Just how much of a moron am I?

Or like the guy that refused to sell me the parts I needed one day. I'd already gotten him to pull me the parts I needed for the '85 truck itself (some brake stuff I think). Then I was moving on to the list of things I needed for the '06 engine and made the mistake of mentioning I'd put that LS...

New to Trucks- Want to Purchase a patina project

Bring A Trailer is hard to beat for what you're looking for. There's not really one place/site that focuses on squarebodies or any one place I know of with alot of them for sale

New to Trucks- Want to Purchase a patina project

Agreed, I wanted to be in the middle. Wanted rust free and drivable so I could enjoy it while I work on it. Real short beds were in the 10-15k range at the time and not always rust free. I also wanted a loaded truck (mainly cuz I'm too short to reach over to roll the other window down lol), so...

Just how much of a moron am I?

Meh, parts stores rarely have their listings 100% accurate anyway. Especially on old stuff

New to Trucks- Want to Purchase a patina project

Exactly. I'd much rather either start with a bare cab/shell or at least with something mostly original that hasn't been monkey'd with a bunch. I will pay more for a better starting point, but I like to put my spin on things so buying a "done" one doesn't make sense. I'm the same way, I buy and...

Just how much of a moron am I?

Don't quote me on this but seems like I read somewhere that all '81-up 2wd C10s that got a small block/TH350 combo got the TH350C? Or at least the ones with ESC did. Maybe? I know mine had it, we got it working again and you could feel it but all it really did was make the truck shudder, so we...

What have you done to your square lately??

Usually open space makes it worse. When I had the Borlas on my truck (before they wore in), they were very mild. My buddy had them on his Blazer and they were much louder. Length of pipe can go either way, can make more reverberation or make it quieter, depending on bends/straights/etc...

Just how much of a moron am I?

Was probably just the engine that got changed. My '85 had a T350C in it from the factory

    Drag link recommendations

Yep, Moog fell victim to the quality freefall from Covid-on like so many other parts companies.

New to Trucks- Want to Purchase a patina project

Meh, just depends on what you want. I specifically wanted to build a truck, so the fact I'm in it more than I could've bought a nice one to start with doesn't matter to me. None of them were built the way I wanted

What have you done to your square lately??

I've had the opposite experience with Spintechs. Had a 6000 on my first Z71 15yrs ago and couldn't stand the drone, even put a resonator in line and still couldn't stand it. Then about 3yrs ago my buddy put them on his LS swapped OBS and same thing, they sound killer but after a couple hours on...

What have you done to your square lately??

I wish the electric ones weren't so expensive. I've always thought it would be cool to do a dual system where you could run cats/resonators in one stream and then bypass them for just open headers or just mufflers
