    82 C10 EFI Conversion project

Update: This project has split into a few different tangents slowing progress a bit. After a lot of research and talking to several fabricators I decided to go with a single turbo setup on this project. The other day I received the custom headers I worked with Steve at Stainless Headers on...

Can rear A/C simply be bypassed?

FWIW If you just need to plug the threaded -6 female in the liquid line, you can use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VCB7SMG/ Then just use a -6 cap to block that off. I never found an actual plug that would work. Brazing the old fitting shut should work as well in a pinch.

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Kind of an old thread, but what shift linkage did you end up going with? Did you run the lokar style kit with the longer rod, and adjustable selector arm? Wondering if the bracket and Z bar arm need to be modified still or if the lokar kit eliminates that bar? Trying to gather up what I need...

    A6/axial ac compressor lines

Pretty sure you can just cut and re-crimp new hose onto the tubing if you can't find the correct hoses. New ferrules run about $2 each, and hose is about $3-4 a foot. I have the crimping tool if you need to borrow it. If you go that route I can help as I just refitted a few lines on my rig.

    SPID question/special paint

I'm pretty sure your truck may have been a fleet/contract for a state/utility rig. My retired USDA forestry truck has a similar RPO with "special paint". Mine is the forestry service green: "Federal Standard 34350. This color is a specific shade of dark green, sometimes referred to as Forest...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

So I have pulled down the system a few times now, with both the low and high side and each time it holds vacuum for up to over night. I ran the vacuum pump for at least an hour (shop temp was above 100) to make sure everything got boiled out. I know you guys know way more about AC than I do...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

Do you recall if is is a Sanden 508 or one of the smaller "peanut style" like the one I am running? This may be experimental cooling down a burb, I think most run the 508 or the A6 style larger replacement ones. So little info on AC systems and design in my experience, but we will soon see how...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

Yes, they looked fine, but I did get some reduced barrier ferrules and hose just in case I found a leak back there, but so far they seem to be holding fine. I needed to do new hoses/routing anyway, so I just ended up replacing all hoses/fittings under the hood, along with redoing the hard lines...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

All fittings and new hoses installed. It's been holding 26" of vacuum for over 3 hours, so I may be getting close to charge time. I don't have a nitrogen tank to pressure test, but it does hold vacuum. Added a total of 11 ounces of PAG 100 oil to the system with 5.1 oz in the new compressor...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

Yeah, it's quite overwhelming at first, with so many fittings, the different sizes, the rear evaporator and such. Hopefully helpful for anyone brave enough to tackle the job! Heck, just a couple weeks ago I didn't know a TXV from an orifice tube, now I feel like I have a handle on it. The real...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

A bit more detail on the fitting information for doing a full workover of a Suburban with rear AC, (when retrofitted with a Sanden SD7 compressor) might be helpful for others. UAC seems to be the defacto source for most suppliers like vintage, coldhose, atco, etc. so these numbers should...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

UAC has an online catalog that was a huge help for me in sizing all the fittings, most are the female O-ring type, with a male fitting on the high side line to the rear. The biggest challenge for me has been splitting the high and low side to the rear AC unit. Link to the UAC catalog...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

Most of them are from rockauto, the UAC brand. I am using an iGleelee (amazon) generic crimp tool. The tool was less than paying a local shop to crimp the hoses.

    Source for rear AC fittings?

During the flushing, most of the mineral oil was a light tan/brown color that came out of the rear lines, and evaporator, compressor - but for some reason the oil coming out of the front evaporator was red in color. Apparently a leak detection die/ester based oil? Sent nearly a gallon of...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

Rear AC unit getting some love: All flushed out New expansion valve installed. Lines flushed, and all buttoned back up Coming together under the hood, have a few more hoses to crimp and fit up, but slowly going back together.

    Source for rear AC fittings?

More work on the rear lines, and fittings: All cleaned and ready for the new hose: (can see the old hoses in the background) Some of the new fittings, I wound up ordering WAY more than I will need, so I have a few options depending on if I wind up replacing all the hoses/fittings, which so...

    Source for rear AC fittings?

Looks like a good amount of the oil gets down into the hard lines, drained out a little over 2 ounces from mine. Gravity helped collect the oil Replacing the old barrier hose with new - just used a dremel tool to cut the ferrules off: and found some JB weld patch work in the...

    Quick questions on charging system.

The dryer is the silver can looking thing attached to the evaporator. But save that for when you are finally connecting it all up to leak test, as they tend to absorb moisture in the air if left open for long. Like Ricko suggested, flush the evaporator out, the goal is to get all the old...

    Best radiator fan kit -Alloyworks?

Went with a cold case as well, fits pretty good. Waiting on the correct mount pads to get it more secured.

Smog removed: how to cap manifolds?

Yep, going to be running an aftermarket vapor can above the tank to a rollover valve in the rear for venting duty. So technically not removed, just relocated to the rear.

    Source for rear AC fittings?

Any tips on how best to flush my rear evaporator unit? I know the expansion valve is inline back there, and from what I know so far the exp valve may block the flow of solvent, my plan is to get as much of the mineral oil out as I can. May just undo the fittings and flush it separate from the...

Smog removed: how to cap manifolds?

Yes, for this application none of it will be needed since I am going with Holley EFI.

    82 C10 EFI Conversion project

Making progress, new accessories installed with the new radiator/fans, engine bay looks so much cleaner now - even though I have more to do, - currently working on mocking up all my AC hoses/fittings. Should get to the wiring and induction swap once I get the new fuel tank and pump installed...
