Weren't there some in the Iacocca years that essentially had cotter pins as hinge pins?

What have you done to your square lately??

An LS swap because of a water pump?! It takes 30 minutes or less to replace. And despite being WAY more expensive than they used to be, it's still FAR less expensive than an engine swap. And iirc, still cheaper than an LS water pump...

    Engine Build

I agree, the '95-up starters are a great choice. I've seen many of those adjustable mini starters die an early death. Or they were only adjustable in a way that fought for clearance with the header or the block or something else.

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

The 9.5" 14 bolt units tend to pop too. It's hit or miss. I've got one that had blew holes in the cover at some point before my ownership, but the one in my 454 SS still works perfectly, despite the truck living a life of abuse. It's on It's third engine. The 2nd engine spun a main, a couple...

New coil springs too strong? Can't connect upper ball joint

I've said it before and I know for sure that I'll say it again... you sir, are a genius. I want to weld heavy D-rings onto my floor jack now. Or just weld on chain hooks. Or both, lol.

Tire size or possible lift recommendations for the 79’ K30

1-tons got the upside down u-bolts for clearance reasons (springs more inboard) and they tend not to rust nearly as bad as the GMT 400's. The ones in the picture are replacements and look fine. They also have the nice tall nuts. Although the unused areas could stand to be trimmed shorter.

    NP241 TRANSFER CASE SUPPORT ROD

They also have IFS and a front shaft that doesn't really move much at all. I don't remember any GMT400's having the support rod?

Yeah, the full size Jeeps did. I'm not sure when it started, but mid 70's and newer for sure.

    Wheels

They aren't GM. I'll guess Jeep/AMC. They have the 3 screw holes to retain factory caps. Pretty cool wheels, I think.

Tire size or possible lift recommendations for the 79’ K30

Yeah, I'd say 2" or 2.5" front springs. Definitely not factory. '77 and '78 K30's used blocks in the rear because they used the shorter C30 spring hangers. But starting in '79, K30's got taller spring hangers and no blocks. If you are keeping the narrow wheels, I definitely recommend the 255's...

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

Looks like an open carrier. The simplest way to identify the gov-loc is there are only 3 cross pin openings in the carrier halves. An open unit has 4. There are other ways to tell based on how the carrier "looks", but the cross pins are very obvious to anyone that can count.

Tire size or possible lift recommendations for the 79’ K30

Those old Selectro hubs (looks like B&M copies?) are pretty cool. Your truck already has a small lift though. So if you are happy with how it rides, that decision has already been made for you. Looks like it used to have larger tires too, based on the cut front fenders. The 255 tires would...

350 Engine extreme backfiring please advice

Yes, I'd bet that 99% of them were too. It also may have been a credit option to delete it. I know I've seen a couple small block '87 half tons that were carb. I vividly remember the first one I saw. It was a white C10 longbed, under 100k on it, no rust and straight from Tennessee. My boss at...

350 Engine extreme backfiring please advice

From what I recall, the TBI was not standard in '87. It was optional, but most trucks got it. It may have just been the 305 that was standard with a carb, not the 350. But I don't remember. It might have also just been the early production 87's.

Edelbrock Carb and original Air cleaner

Plastic, aftermarket air cleaner spacers are available too, in different heights. It used to be that you could walk into any Advance Auto or AutoZone and buy one for cheap, but you probably have to order one online now.

    Hitch bolts

Generally speaking, if they come from harbor freight or they are the store brand at an auto parts store or hardware store, they aren't going to be good drill bits. Commonly found Milwaukee, DeWalt, Irwin, etc are pretty decent.

Be sure to use some heavy backing washers inside the frame too. Hitch hardware typically includes backing plates/washers that are 1/4" thick.

    Tailgate trunnion hinge repair

I'd see if there's any bolt-on replacements for other trucks available at the parts stores (often in the Dorman/Help isle) that have the same size cup for the trunnion. If so, cut it off the bracket and weld it onto your tailgate.

They didn't go to 85mph until very late in '79, maybe. Either that or, the very early '80 models got the 85mph speedo, but not the new for '80 font. '77 got a voltage gauge, but still had a mechanical oil pressure gauge. In '78, the switch was made to an electrical oil pressure gauge, along...
