GMC Savana, Plus a Chevy Express Now Too

Yeah, I REALLY wish someone would manufacture them again. They were reintroduced about 15 years ago, even as a radial, but it didn't last long. Interco offers the "Cobalt" which liiks like an old Ground Hawg, but last I checked, nothing for the older rim sizes yet. 17"s and 20"s... which I find...

Does this head/rocker setup need guide plates?

Yeah, with the vortec heads or other '87+ heads, you either need self-aligning rockers or you need guide plates.

It's a Ground Hawg indeed. The match to it was posted in my previous Jackman picture. Neither have much tread unfortunately. 12.00x16.5.

1987 V10 with 1974 engine- need TBI Help

Yeah, I know what you mean about the different programs. Used to have a scanner at work that did OBD2 as well as the older stuff. The older stuff needed the correct connector attached to the cable and it needed a separate 12v power source to operate. The OBD2 connector needed different chips...

1987 V10 with 1974 engine- need TBI Help

I think you are about to learn me something... I had always considered all the pre '96 proprietary stuff as OBD 1. Because when I got into the industry in the late 90's, that's what all the people I worked around called it. So that is not correct terminology?

Yeah, here's some All Terrain T/A's that are bias ply: Size L60-15 Then here's an early Radial All Terrain T/A (pre-KO):

1987 V10 with 1974 engine- need TBI Help

With the older OBD1 GM stuff, you can just jump the A and B terminals in the diagnostic port, then turn on the ignition. The SES light will flash in a sequence that will tell you the code numbers.

What have you done to your square lately??

I see your point. But at the same time, the cab spreads some amount of load to the other frame mounts, including the radiator support (assuming the front clip is installed).

What have you done to your square lately??

That actual frame mounts for the cab? Or the cab mounting area itself? The frame mounts are strong enough. Sure, they are held on with rivets... but they are strong rivets designed to hold up in a crash. Also, the rear spring hangers are riveted on too, and everyone will support a truck by the...

GMC Savana, Plus a Chevy Express Now Too

Yeah, I got mixed up for sure with the KM and KO. At any rate, Ted's tires predate that. I've got a picture of the older style all-terrain somewhere. I'll find it. Iirc, it's mostly a slightly different shoulder design.

What new tools have you got lately?

It actually is 3289. From my research, it was repurposed by Kent Moore over the years for additional uses. The brackets on mine are supposedly for a powerglide.

Well, I didn't plan on it. I wasn't in the market for any fixtures, but when I acquired some, I thought to myself "hey, I will probably need these".

Looks similar to the one I got in the auction with a bunch of other stuff.

    Castor shims

Yeah, OP also has a thread asking about a track bar to help with steering wander. In that thread too, it was mentioned that it could be as simple as an improper toe setting.

The ones Ted posted are even pre- KO. They still say "Radial" in the name.

What to use for bed seam sealant?

Yeah, any automotive grade sealer. You will want something with a fairly heavy body and also something that cures semi-rigid.

That nut driver set looks awfully familiar. I think my dad had one similar when I was a kid.

1987 V10 with 1974 engine- need TBI Help

I agree with the first part, but my experience with the thermostat situation is much different. I have run several TBI engines (4.3l through 7.4l) with 180 degree t-stats as daily drivers, including in the winter, and they most certainly always got into closed loop just fine and ran great. Heck...

    Castor shims

My simple mind doesn't quite follow... But common performance vehicle thought is that more caster is better. And common procedure for a lifted, solid axle 4x4 is to shim the pinion up for better driveline angle... which in turn goes against the performance car ways. Using my Suburban as an...

    Castor shims

Right. I think I need to reiterate... shims on the front with lift springs are typically to help reduce pinion angle. NOT improve caster angle. Helping one will hurt the other, so the lesser of two evils will need to be selected.

    Swapping my 4.3 v6 for a 350 v8

V6 4x4's were so uncommon in my area, I have no idea if you just need V8 brackets or if you need a V8 crossmember too.
  23. bucket

    Castor shims

I think it depends on the specific leaf springs. My Suburban has 4" springs that came with angle shims installed in the pack (I don't recall the angle, I'd have to measure them again), presumably to help the pinion angle. It *should* have hurt the caster angle, but it steers and drives fantastic.

What have you done to your square lately??

It wasn't me, was it? Lol. I wasn't aware that 2wd vs 4x4 was the difference, but I do recall a difference in the earlier 70's crew cabs vs the later 70's. I think. 2wd vs 4x4 would make more sense.

They are very very close to the Jackman design. There is a thin perimeter ring around the rim center that is welded, rather than just welded spoke tips like a Jackman. Durability is closer to that of a modern "wagon" wheel, but the look is more like a spoked Jackman. Non Jackman: Jackman...
