    1. Do you have spark? 2. Have you checked the timing while cranking to make sure you are not way off? I don't think I would be jumping to a new distributer without doing the simple checks first.

    Try pulling one fuse at a time until the light goes out. That may help you narrow in on the problem. Pay attention to which fuse it is.

    I noticed you mentioned changing a switch. Did you change the turn signal switch in the column? Any change when the headlights are on? What happens if you take out one bulb. Does the other side work correctly or not at all?

    You said both fronts iluminate solid with he hazards. Do both fronts iluminate for either left or right turn or only the side selected by the turn signal switch.

    Has there been any aftermarket wiring added or other work performed on the truck? Your problem is most likely something back feeding or getting it's ground through that circuit. Here is a diagram of part of that circuit. The lines leaving the bottom of the image are all grounds and I would guess...

    If you decide to go with paint that doesn't mean you have to go all out. I have had good luck with industrial enamel including the rustolium sourced from Grainger. It just takes a big tip on an HVLP gravity gun to spray it. Never had a fear of sctatches. That stuff is tough!

    I agree on the metallic paint. I have never been a fan of bedliner anything but bedlining and chip gaurd.

    What do you get if you ground to the alternator case rather than the battery and measure the voltage at the alternator output post?
