need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

The adapter on the 05 Chevy NV4500 i bought the other day is wide open from the rear, and inside I see two gears engaged with the trans. output shaft, which doesn’t disengage from them, what are those gears for? There was a 261 bolted to that adapter. The main shaft out has 32 teeth like you...

need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

Thanks, There’s a few 208s at the local wrecking yards, but I’ll probably just get the AA adapter for my 79 205 because I like it better. Also considering making it two wheel drive.

need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

The NV4500 came out of a 2005 Chevy 4X4 with a NP261 T case, and the NP205 is currently bolted to a SM465 manual in my 79 Chevy which has a HD Dana44

I accidentally typed in the wrong space, here's what I said above : I have a Dana 44 HD. not sure what you mean by driver drop T case, is that the shifter being on the driver's side? Would the Dana44 HD work with the 261? By temperamental I mean the 241 I have is just real hard to push into...

Thanks very much for the ORD reference, that's good to know. But if the 26- would work that would sure be easy

Thanks, I guess I don't know what clocking is. is it the way the two pieces mate up rotation wise?

need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

Thanks, I should call AA and ask about the 205 adapter having the bolt holes for my shifter. The guy I talked to didn't mention a shifter but if his adapter acommodates my shifter maybe I should bite the bullet and get their adapter. And I'll ask him about his flywheel fitting my input bearing

How does the twin stick work? one for 2WD and one for 4WD ? How can your factory shifter have a new floor mount with two sticks? Seems not compatible.

need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

Thanks, I don't know the bolt pattern until I pull it which will be in a few weeks. If there's no boss, I don't see how I can make it work though. I don't think I'd want to risk weakening the case by welding on it, but am open to other opinions

need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

Thanks for all the expert info. I should have given more info on what I have. I'll have more info tomorrow when I get home, but I have the SM465 tranny now with a NP205. The front axle is a heavy 3/4 ton Dana44. My NV4500 is out of a 2005 Chevy 4X4 and i'll get the bolt pattern and spline...

need help ordering from Advanced Adapters

I spoke with a guy at Advanced Adapters about what I need to install a NV4500 into my 79 Chevy. I want the bell housing with the mechanical clutch linkage setup. But they want $630 for their adapter to the NP205 transfer case. Has anyone tried using a later T case with the NV4500? I had a...

    Dana44 axle sounds bad

Took it out, I got a smaller one from the wrecker. Fewer splines. Everything in the front was bigger when they used the 14 bolt rear end with float. My calipers were bigger too. All I have to do ( if possible) is swap the stubby outer axles at the U joint

    Dana44 axle sounds bad

I replaced it because the guy I bought it from left that hub engages full time due to the fact the insides of the hub were full of rust, (no O ring) and the axle was rusted real bad

    Dana44 axle sounds bad

I just replaced the long axle on my Dana 44 with one from the wrecker’s and putting the hub together noticed when the axle engag s and turns it sounds like it’s not engaging at the gears much at all. Sounds bad. The wheel bearings are tight, and the axle went back in with no problem. Is there...

    NV4500 years?

Thanks again for all the great information. Just bought a 2005 NV4500 from a wrecker nearby for 1075 which has no guarantee but was supposedly tested, which I’ll have a tranny shop check out. If it needs some work that’s fine. Gear Vendors called back and said they do have a Overdrive unit that...

    NV4500 years?

Thank you both. I have a dodge diesel NV4500 with no wire. My ram has the vss on the T case. I don’t know if I can find an adaptive BH for putting it with my Chevy 350. Don’t want to mess with changing the tail shaft either, too bad because I had a good shop rebuild it with a bigger 1 3/8...

    NV4500 years?

I’m calling around for a Chevy NV4500, and one wrecker said the earlier ones from 93 or 94 to about 99 were non electric and from 99 on, about 07, they had electronics. I’d like to know, how electrified are those later models, and can they be converted to non electric? Thanks in advance

    Which manual transmission?

Is that a 4 wheel drive? I have a NV4500 I can put in my 79 K20 which has 4.10 gears but I’m checking to see if I can convert my 14 bolt to 3.73, and heard the front Dana44s can be converted by just swapping axles.

    Another front diff ID Q

Just watched a good video on YouTube called Dana 44 ball joint replacement, and it shows how you have to start with removing the entire hub assembly and spindle, and since my hub and spindle aren’t coming out I’ll either take it to a shop or get a whole Dana44.

    Another front diff ID Q

Thanks, there is a D44 knuckle I can get nearby, how does the bottom ball joint come off? I don’t see how to get the nut off if it, it’s tight to the knuckle and between the U joint and the knuckle. The top one I can pound down on to get it loose.

    Another front diff ID Q

Thank you, definitely a Dana 44. Now I can shop for a knuckle. There was nothing but a pile of rust inside the hub when I bought it. The PO just left it engaged all the time as it never left the ranch. I got the cap, two snap rings and two round things out but the washer with the square gear...

    Another front diff ID Q

I just read hotrodPM’s helpful sticky on IDing front diffs. It says from 79 on, the 2500’s were GM corporate ten bolts. Mine is a 79 2500. But I’ve read that Dana’s are “ stamped” with a 44 or 60 facing the the T case. And mine has a 44.8 forged not stamped onto that rear, between webs...

Do U joints have to align in any way

How does one ensure a U joint is installed such that a grease nipple is under compression, and under compression from what? I’ve seen them pointed in and inaccessible, a sure sign of ineptitude
