How to pick the correct headers...

I used Patriot long tube headers on my 82 C10 with a 350. They tucked up nice and high, but I had to slightly bend the fuel and brake lines near the motor mount on the passenger side, and relocate the clamp. No clearance problems anywhere else. Gaskets were worthless as usual, so I used some...

    Engine options from 81/86 c10 and k10

In 1982, it looks like the 350 was available only on 20-30 models, except in California where it was also available on K10. Check out pages 13-18 on this document from GM Heritage Center This was only for 1982. Things may have been different in other years...

Damaged wires on firewall about 2 inches from fuse box

It's better to unplug the under hood wiring harnesses from the engine compartment side. I mean that's where the damaged wires are. Loosen the center bolt and pull. EZ-peezy!

Brake parts questions on a 79 sierra.

My 82 C10 had 1" thick rotors, which also means different caliper, spindle, and inner wheel bearing. Pads are the same as 1.25" brakes. My 69 C10 has 1" brakes & spindles from an 85 C10, but they work great. Only advantage of the thicker rotor is better heat dissipation for downhills and towing.

    inline six compatability

If you don't have to meet 1986 emissions specs, try to find a 250 without the "integrated" cylinder head & manifold. They are prone to cracking. Also skip the engines with two chambers, valves, and hoses on top of the valve covers. I agree that a 292 would be perfect and probably makes 25%...

    Time for a Radiator Upgrade...?

Hi Peats. The main thing is keeping the oil temp at 212 or higher to burn off moisture and combustion blow-by contaminants in the oil. Depending on the engine, that typically means maintaining the coolant temp at 195-200 or higher, and getting to that temp as quickly as possible. If you...

    Intake is Outgoing

Some small blocks in the 1980s had aluminum intake manifolds from the factory. Was that also the case with big blocks, or were they used only in the late 60s/early 70s on high performance engines? Of course, if it was a factory manifold it would probably have a GM casting number on it...

    Time for a Radiator Upgrade...?

Here's a link the RockAuto radiators for 75 C10. Probably the same as the one I had in my 82. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,1975,c10+pickup,5.7l+350cid+v8,1030093,cooling+system,radiator,2172

    Time for a Radiator Upgrade...?

Just a couple of comments: My 82 C10 with 350 and no A/C ran a $130-something "Murray" aluminum radiator that I bought at O'Reilly Auto Parts. It's listed for 6-cylinder up through 350 w/o air. Folks on forums laughed at me, but one of the reasons I did it was because a guy on a Chevy truck...

    Wiring issue!

No cranking or intermittent cranking could be the neutral safety switch, which allows the ignition switch "start" terminal (purple wire) to connect to starter solenoid only when column shifter is in Park or Neutral.

    Temp Sending Unit

Always a good idea to check sender resistance in hot water at a few temperatures (like 100, 150, 180, 212)because I have found them to vary significantly among brands. I just got a new G1852 for my 69 C10, and had to add a 15 ohm resistor in series with it to put the needle in the middle of the...

Sounds like a good combo. I'd bet you've had at least a few guys ask why you're not running a 750!

    Camshaft input from experience.

A cruiser with a 3.42 axle, tall tires (28-29"?) and and an OD trans with lock-up converter would like something around 215-220 degrees @ .050 lift, and a 112-114 LSA. You don't want to be running down the highway at 2000 RPM or less with a cam like the ones recommended above. With 10:1...

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Yes, that's the only thing I can think of. It would strange, but using a new 12mm bolt may be the way to go. I don't know what else can be done other than replacing (or possibly repairing) the crank.

What you reckon it's worth? 76 GMC Sprint

I know a guy who recently sold a decent one, running and driving, for around $12K. Interior needed a little work and original paint was worn. This one looks to be worth less than half that much if you sell it as is. If you can get it on the road and replace the missing trim piece under the...

    Differential gear conundrum

I recently used this stuff instead of a gasket. Be sure the follow the instructions. After applying to one side, you let it set for an hour with the cover bolts just hand-tightened. Then you torque to spec and wait a day before adding diff lube. Not great for someone in a hurry, so shops...

    SAE or synthetic

Well, there is plenty of info on the web about 5w-30 conventional vs. 5w-30 synthetic at very low temperatures. The test below was done at -40C (which happens to be -40F). So, yes, that's not something we're not likely to encounter in most places in the US, but I suspect 5W conventional oil...

    SAE or synthetic

An advantage synthetics have is they flow much better on cold start-up. Very important in cold climates. Also, it's NOT a matter of SAE vs. synthetic. It's conventional vs. synthetic. SAE is Society of Automotive Engineers. So even Mobil 1 can be "good old SAE oil." That said, I use...

    Bouncing speedometer

I've always found that graphite cable lubricant will fix the needle bounce, unless the cable is very old, kinked, or installed using a very tight turn. Even a brand new (especially imported) cable might be dry. I saw grease and oil suggested in another forum. DO NOT use those.
