    81-87 body molding

After much consideration, I think I am going to trim out the Suburban… I think a roll and cutting it on a miter saw would work? Maybe blade friction on the plastic would create a seal on the end? That being said, where is the best place to get it? I replaced the chrome insert trim on my...

    Suburban Tailgate Window Switch

Hey All! In going down the proverbial rabbit hole with the tailgate I pulled out the regulator to clean/lube and the tailgate switch because it didn't work. In lubing up the regulator, has anyone ever used SLIP Plate (graphite spray) on the geared pieces? I think the rollers should still get...

    Sound dampening

In pulling out all my boxes of stuff to put this Suburban back together, I found my boxes of Kilmat... I have (2) 36 sq ft boxes and vaguely remember my plan to be do the floors with the Kilmat and with the ceiling, doing foil backed foam in between the headliner almost like a wall assembly...

    Mystery hole on fenders

That trim is by far and away the best package GM ever put on a square body! Now I’m thinking no trim..?! With that being said, if I don’t put trim on it does anyone have any good ideas to cover those holes…aside from going back to the body shop!?

    Mystery hole on fenders

Thanks all! Actually I wasn’t wanting the trim…however after seeing it without, I think it almost needs trim..otherwise it looks like a big blob?

    Mystery hole on fenders

Ya know…after looking at it closer…there is a hole in the back and front fender…looking at some google images has me thinking they are for mud flaps (maybe dealer installed?). The holes seem “finished” or maybe even punched, not drilled…

    Mystery hole on fenders

That’s what I thought as well…every side trim I see for 81+ is an adhesive? I looked on LMC, etc and didn’t see a retainer for side trim?

    Mystery hole on fenders

Hey All! Just got the ok Burb back from the paint shop and now the reassembly process begins! I was trying to lay out all the parts and see what I’m missing, what they lost and what I need to order and noticed a hole in the fenders I didn’t have them fill and realized there wasn’t anything in...

    Winch Mount

I just got a quote for a 20’ length, 1/4” angle with 2 1/2”x3 1/2” legs for $180… I think that is the best bumper I have seen yet and I would imagine there is $300-$400 of steel in that bumper. With shipping included in the price that makes it an absolute bargain

I like that look too…I guess the big companies can mass produce millions of them for Tundras and new GM and Fords The square body market would be minuscule in comparison and they are not making any more of them!

Got it, makes sense! Yes, I bought a Badlands Apex with the steel cable for it during the COVID years at what I thought was a rock bottom price but I think they have gotten even cheaper since...

    Winch Mount

That was my thought as well…would it frowned upon to cut them out and weld in some corner gussets with cutouts to clear the sides of the winch?

    Winch Mount

Ok...I think I may have found a bumper within a decent drive but had a question on mounting the winch...it looks like it's either a Warn or knock of type bumper but I was wondering if/how the HF ZXR 12000 winch will mount to it? From the dimensions it apprears as though the diagonal pieces...

Love the slogan...and your right they are a good looking bumper and just a little modern...I think this might fit my project perfectly! Thanks Gents!

Ok…so the Craigslist bumper turned out to be a diamond plate backyard fab with no mounting brackets.. The more I look at what’s out there, the less impressed I am. The classic Warn bumper is probably the best thing I’ve seen so far. I’m tempted to buy some 1/4” plate and fab one up, simple...

Ain't that the truth! So after a Craigslist search I may have a line on a used winch bumper...the guy doesn't know what it came off of though..do were these made with vehicle specific bolt patterns to mount them up or did they have adapter brackets?? or ??

Yeah, I thought moving a winch around on a hitch would kind of be silly too.. I guess in looking at all the options the hidden mount is the way to go for me...oh and interestingly enough, Engineered Vintage has the brace question addressed on thier website already, haha.

I appreciate everyone's experience on this! What do you guys think about a front mount hitch/hitch mounted winch setup? Seems like that would increase the versatility of the winch a little?
  20. S

    Winch Mount

Yep Redfish, exactly the reason I’m not drinking the koolaid on the hidden winch…it’s low and I don’t want to have to reach down through a bunch of gunk to use it when I need it
  21. S

    Winch Mount

I appreciate the wisdom Redfish! I think the thought is that you hope you never need the winch- until you do?! I looked on the Engineered Vintage website and apparently they require you to purchase their product before they give you a code to watch the installation video, I'm assuming that...

So I already put a steering box gusset in (I had an '83 K5 that had the steering box peel off the frame going through Santa Monica mountains- not real fun), do you think these winch mounts are going to interfere with that? Also, I REALLY do not want to drill and holes in the frame, do these...

This one needs to go, asking for opinions. Offering it up here first.

And to summarize, do you still have this?!?? $5k is a bargain I would entertain..I didn’t see a model year for it? Am I missing something or you swap gears, remove the body lift, new springs/shocks, different wheels, fix a head gasket…then that 700- been on the bad end of those on occasion…ok...

Hey all! Finally getting my Suburban back from paint shop…I wasn’t sweating the guy because I had some other pressing issues and he essentially stored it for me for the last year but excited to get her put back together finally! I have a 12,000lb winch I want to put on the front but admittedly...
