    GMC Hood Ornament

Quick update...I was able to clean the plastic up pretty well with plastic polish made for headlight lenses... Now the trick would appear to be getting the paint applied around the lettering without bleeding in..do you think the hot glue masking would work for the plastic? I also thought it...

    Door weatherstrip

That would probably help! The door side lip of the weatherstripping is below the top edge of the door, is it supposed to sit on top? If so, I think I would need to bend the mounting tabs towards the outside of the door more?

    GMC Hood Ornament

I hear ya Hucked....but where did the red go?! You have owned it since new? I have seen emblems that are still red with a lot worse sun damage done to the plastic? It's definitely the backside of silver paint on the plastic and the GMC logo feels like silicone..

    Door weatherstrip

Another day, another question! I went to put the weather stripping seals on and nothing seems to be lining up 100%... It's my fault as I made the mistake of having the body shop remove all the old rubber for paint and dropped of a new complete Precision kit to replace everything. I picked it...

    GMC Hood Ornament

Oh wow, so the silver paint is really just a faded red?? I wonder if it was metallic because the backside looks very silvery as well?? Or....was the plastic badge red tinted, silver painted on the back and all of the red pigment washed out of the plastic? That seems more likely? Kinda feel...

    GMC Hood Ornament

Hey All, I’m putting my Suburban back together and trying to clean it up as I go. Does anyone know if they sell a complete “paint gasket” kit for emblems, etc? Also, I was trying to restore my existing hood emblem if anyone has any tips or posts they could point me towards? I’d consider a...

    Tire damage

Appreciate all the replies! That was my thought from the beginning, I have never worked in a tire shop but have seen worse on people's rigs. I think glue it, run it, watch it and keep it on the back is the way to go...I picked them up used so like Squareroot and a couple others said, the age...

    Tire damage

I wasn’t too sure how it would affect the structural integrity of the the tire.. On one hand it’s the rubber outer layer protecting the belted portion so it shouldn’t be an issue..on the other hand it’s a small tear in the unit as a whole- kind of like a bridge with a small crack is...

Tire suggestions for lifted 86 suburban

Wow...I think I have found the one thing in California cheaper than somewhere else...mounting tires! Tons of used tire shops around here will mount and balance for $20-25 each... I haven't tried 37"+ but people are swapping out big tires all day long out here..

    Tire damage

Hey All, Got a question for everyone..I just picked up a set of used Mickey Thompson tires and while I was stacking them away I saw this chunk loose on one of them... Do I need to worry about this or throw some glue on it?

    Speaker pods/General stereo questions

All great info, much appreciated!!! I am putting those same 4x10's in the stock location as well..how do they sound? Is there any way to test the cables for proper shielding before installing them or installing them and running it IS the testing procedure?

    Sound dampening

I put a piece of insulation in one of the roof bays and that completely stopped the condensation in that bay...I guess the concept of thermal bridging exists even in a squarebody

    Speaker pods/General stereo questions

Ok…I’m about to run some stereo wires! 1 1/2 year later ain’t bad?! Question- I have a tote bin full of RCA cables from various home theater configuration over the years.. can I use these for head unit to amp connection? I know they won’t be as flexible as automotive but I think in this...

    Sound dampening

Condensation mostly happens on surfaces that are colder than the moist air Ok…that would make a lot of sense then..if the headliner was on, then the inside part of the roof would be warmer than the outside…thus no condensation? Even if the ambient air temp/humidity was the same? Trippy…haha

    Sound dampening

Basically this is happening because the back window is out?

    Sound dampening

Here is the condensation I'm getting. 66 high in the day and 48 overnight low. The back window is out right now, waiting on the correct size sash tape. I was going to cut a piece of foam and put it up in one of the bays for my driveway experiment to see if the condensation is BECAUSE the roof...

    Sound dampening

Interesting you brought this up because without the headliner on, sometimes I will go out in the morning and see condensation on the inside roof! I'm assuming it is happening on the backside of all the body panels and just burns off? Condensation getting stuck was my big worry about sticking...

    Suburban Tailgate Window Switch

Update on the switch part… I used a 2mm brass screw to reattach the tab (my soldering skills have always been suspect)..I then stacked some of the nuts on the backside and ground them down with dremmel to get more or less the correct diameter for the lead to attach..
