In need of a good paint and body shop in Houston area

The answer to these questions really depends on what you want your ultimate end result to be. It's really impossible in my opinion to get a quality paint job even at a reasonable price. The quality paint job is going to take a lot of labor hours and expensive materials to do properly. It's going...

    Batteries

I've had very good luck with Optimas. I've been running either red tops or yellow tops in all of my vehicles for the past 20 plus years. It's about eight cars and trucks. Including two 454s. I have better luck with the yellow tops with vehicles that aren't used regularly. Deep cycle. And I keep...

Draining antifreeze before changing intake manifold

If I were doing this work I would pull the coolant drain plug from the block and drain all the coolant out of the block before removing the intake manifold.

    Are pneumatic tools obselete?

I like a small electric driver for small things around the engine compartment or in the interior etc. They are reasonably light and compact and handy and no cord to slow you down. But for heavy chassis work, etc I still prefer the pneumatic.

Coolant and Spark Plug gap questions.

I also concur with the 0.45-in gap for HEI. And I also concur with the green coolant. As suggested by others, be sure to completely drain and flush one or more times with fresh water before switching from orange to green. I believe they are incompatible with each other. I recommend a 50-50...

Don't really know where to put this, but have any of y'all ever had to get a bonded title, and how big of a pain is it?

This is exactly the case in Arizona and what I had to go through

Piece of _____ Liars on Craigslist!

Human nature. Very unfortunate situation. That's why I love the animals. It seems like things have gotten much worse since the pandemic. Sorry to read the sad stories.

Don't really know where to put this, but have any of y'all ever had to get a bonded title, and how big of a pain is it?

The procedure differs by state. I had to do it in Arizona. Is a major PITA. Cost me about $500. You have to do a lot of paperwork and write letters to previous owners and get responses back from them notarized describe the situation of why there is no title. Then when you get all your...

Do I rebuild my SBC or swap for an LS3?

My personal opinion. If it's your work truck it's your second vehicle it's not your daily driver, it's not a road queen it's not a show Queen. I just rebuild the existing engine as is and put some good valve seals rings etc in it. LS swap is going to cost more money for sure, and for this kind...

    Stripped Holes in Rally Wheels

Heli coils will be a simple and permanent solution to this problem. The suggestions of tape and epoxy will not be a permanent solution. It makes no sense to drill to the next size when you can simply insert a helicoil and keep all the bolts the same. It's easy to find a helicoil repair kit for...

New sbc 400 blueprint engine keeps fouling plugs with gas

While it may be remotely possible to tune the 850 CFM carburetor to marginally work with your 400 in³ engine, it's really too much carburetor for such a small engine. I would recommend 650 CFM. Possibly (but probably not) 750 CFM at the most. You'll have a much more drivable engine, more...

    Are “cheap” tires bad?

Michelin Worth every penny of the extra cost. It's the only tire I buy for any of my vehicles. And I've got 12 vehicles
