Q: re - can anyone ID this ?

What you have is what was called the "Pulse-Air air injection system". Not all engines with that head used this system. There is no air pump with these. If you switch to the conventional head, you will have to convert to a conventional air injection system with an air pump. J. B. J. B.

Q: re - can anyone ID this ?

Yes you can! You might have a very hard time finding the correct bracket set for the accessories, but once you have everything buttoned up, you will be good to go. If you have progressive 2 barrel carb, you will have to switch to a 1 barrel of the correct era.

    Vents smell like piss

If they are hungry enough, or if they were born wild, trust me, they will eat the guts. The head, though, is too bony. J. B.

    Bench Seat Identification

I also say late 70s or early 80s. If it was mid 80s, it would have the seat belts coming through the cushion, instead of coming from between the cushion and back rest.

    First thread 1982 C10/C20 differences

Are the steering knuckles interchangeable? If yes, then all you have to do is replace the them, the rotors, and calipers with C10 parts, and replace the rear end and rear springs. J. B.

    Newby, 1981 C20 cab on 1980 C10 frame

Yes, you can put the 1980 front clip on an 81 cab - they are all nearly the same. You will need to use 1980 inner fenders, as the holes will all be in the wrong places if you try to use 81 inner fenders. You will also have to use a 1980 style windshield wiper transmission. The only thing that...

    High Compression Woes, good fix??

Leaning out the air-fuel mixture will make the pinging and running on worse, as well as destroy performance. With today's fuel, you can't run super-high compression. Modern engines get away with it because their ignition systems are computerized and instantly retard the timing at the first...

60 days in on my 90 day rebuild. Goin to try a motor upgrade next. Any advice on going from a 350 to a 454?

If you want reliability, you should go with a turbo 400. The turbo 350 was never intended to handle big-block torque. J. B.

60 days in on my 90 day rebuild. Goin to try a motor upgrade next. Any advice on going from a 350 to a 454?

What transmission do you have? If automatic, you need a turbo 400 with a 454. You will soon destroy a turbo 350. J. B.

LS surging idle throttle blade hole

A slight vacuum leak would cause a high rough idle, but a bad one will cause a low idle and frequent stalling. Spraying carb cleaner is probably the best way to find it. You could spray gas, but that is very dangerous. J. B.

Too high Hydrocarbon on emission tests-Help

The mixture screw only adjusts idle and low-speed. You might have too high a float - that will result in the low speed and high speed circuits overlapping at a certain throttle position, causing it to be too rich, which will cause you to flunk the HC. Unlike the vehicles of the 60s and older...

1978 K10 auto to 4 spd manual swap

You should gear down, as a manual transmission requires lower gearing - it will feel boggy and gutless with gearing that is fine for an automatic, otherwise Go for it! J. B.

    Master cylinder lid leaking

As the linings wear, fluid level drops, so you should indeed check the level. Ignore it at your own risk. J. B.

    Master cylinder lid leaking

Driving it several years and never opened it??? You are lucky it never got low enough for you to have no brakes. You are supposed to check your brake fluid regularly - every time you get gas. "Taking a chance" on brakes and/or related items, can cost you your life. J. B.

What is this noise after belt change?

You say noise stops when you stop. How about if you rev the engine a little in Neutral? If it still makes that noise, it is one of your accessories most likely, but if it doesn't make the noise when revving the engine, it sounds like it is in your front end. I would check the wheel bearings...

Adding second fuel tank and efi fuel pumps

If I were you, I would find one in a junk yard with dual tanks and remove the passenger-side bed side and the tank with associated hardware from it and replace your bed side with that one and install that tank, along with the valve, lines, etc. That will be a lot less trouble than trying to...

Engine cranks, but no start. Unsure of the problem.

The fact that you just installed a fresh engine says that the first thing you should check is if the engine turns freely or not by hand. Sounds like you might have a tight bearing or two. If it doesn't, you need to pull the pan and check each one, one at a time. If any are tight, it will be...

    "Oldsmobile Diesel" Conversion to gas

And, since his motor vehicles department will think it is still a diesel, he can remove all the smog junk and set it up like the 1970 455, except for compression. He will have a hot-rod truck, especially if he puts tri-power or dual-quads on it!
