What new tools have you got lately?

Several other retailers have that same style of bin in several sizes. Walmart has Hart brand with blue lids and another brand with red lids. Used to have one in the bed of the Crew Cab to store fluids and bottles. It was too big, but I got the smallest one I could stand a gallon of antifreeze up...

    Icing on the cake !!!

What I did, when I was changing the water pump and bypass hoses on my '99 OBS Burb with the 5.7,(350 Vortec) was go to the local parts store. There are two bypass hoses on the Vortecs and I got one correct the first time, but the other one was incorrect. I took the old one to the store and I had...

    Bare Hands

Probably depends on what you're doing. We used to have disposable gloves at work, that fit me well, and I had kept some back to use when doing messy jobs. Then the supply company changed vendors and we don't have that brand available anymore. And I had used my stash while awaiting the new...

    Hej From a newbie :)

Welcome, from Houston, Texas! My family's had 5 square body Burbs, the '79, '84 and '90 were the ones we used the most. All 3 had buckets, the '84 didn't come with em but we added them after we got it. Used to do a LOT of road trips to swap meets, in DFW area and other places in north and...

The darker brown looks like Mahogany Brown Metallic, not sure what the lighter color name is. Text under that one is harder to read.

    Color Search

Our '81 GMC Sierra shop truck was a dark brown metallic. Don't remember the color name, and that truck has been gone for many years. We bought it in the spring or early summer of ' 81, and it had a nasty scratch on the left rear fender that supposedly was from unloading it from the car carrier...

    OBS Throttle Position Sensor

I used Standard on my two Vortecs, and they were made properly and work fine. Delco has really changed and not for the better it sounds like.... Back in the day, AC Delco was what Dad used on all our GM vehicles, and what we sold and recommended at the parts store.

    What year tailgate is this??

My great grandmother had an '88 celebrity for her last new car. She got run into, in it, at least twice, and my grandmother (her daughter, they hated each other but lived together) wrecked it at least once. And one time she drove it off in the ditch in front of our house and shop building...

What new tools have you got lately?

Picked these up at O'Reilly's this Saturday, needed to do some brake work on the DD. They're only $8 for a pair and work lots better than baling wire.

    What year tailgate is this??

It's not just the squares, I have friends with OBS trucks that are made up of parts of many different trucks. Even my stock Crew Cab has parts off like 5 different trucks from the wrecking yards. Be 6 or 7 after my next trip, I need a hood and a few other bits.

    Engine oil capacity

I think I read on here recently that there are 4 quart and 5 quart oil pans for small blocks in trucks? Every 350 I've ever changed the oil in, held 5 quarts. Sometimes when I put 5 in though, I've gotten the results you got(even on two trucks I know have factory oil coolers because they have...

    What year tailgate is this??

After 8 square body pickups and Burbs (5 Burbs, 3 pickup) and Dad and I having to go through each one, bumper to bumper, multiple times...some of those things are pretty stuck in my memories. More than once, we were under a truck late Sunday night because it had to be taking someone to work the...

    What year tailgate is this??

The '79 and '84 were Silverado's, and the '90 was a GMC SLE . So, nicely equipped.... though the '79 had crank windows. Dad made a stick to get the lock buttons up or down, with a beveled slot cut in one end. It had power tailgate window though. We got doors to do power locks and windows but...

    What year tailgate is this??

Yup I remember that inside hood release, when that was a new thing. Got retro fitted to the '78, and I think the Burbs had them stock. The ones we used most were the '79, '84 and the '90.

    Waffling

See attached. Also available in a 5 lug version, our '78 GMC Sierra shop truck had a set on it. Dad had them painted colonial yellow to match the rest of the truck. These wheels are a little different than the aftermarket versions which were quite popular "back in the day". The triangular holes...

    What year tailgate is this??

I know the raised area on the front of the hood wasn't till 1979 models.... two '79s we had, had it, and the 75 and 78 did not. I know there are differences in the underside structure too but not sure what they are. So that is a '73-'78 hood by my understanding.... I've read the reason for the...

    Cruisin the Coast 2024

I saw a Vette about that age this morning, it was silver though. Too busy picking my jaw up off the floorboard to get a picture....one does not see nice vintage Corvettes in Houston unless they are on the way to/from a car show.....

1977 was GM's 50th anniversary, is what I always heard about the gold stripes in the trim.

What have you done to your square lately??

I think the battery might have a dead or dying cell. We went through something similar with my crew cab on Saturday. Got up early, breakfast at Whataburger (SOP for early gigs) and then heading across Houston to a toy show. Running the lights, stereo and heater all the way over there (cool front...

Truckin' the Trace November 1 - 2, Tupelo, MS

One a these years.... Imma go to some of these shows. I want to, bad, but as long as I'm working more or less full time, costs too much to be off very long.

    Wheel Opening Moldings

Yes I remember the '90 Burb had the smooth wheel well moldings. When we got the '81 GMC Sierra shop truck, Dad wanted to put the wheel well trims on it; he liked how they made the truck look a little bit more "finished". He bought the rears and they fit fine, but the dealer tried to tell him the...

How to ID 16" 8 bolt wheels?

What he made was kind of over engineered, but he was like that about a lotta stuff. It actually has a half inch drive on the end, so you can swap sockets as needed. He had it in the Denali and when we were cleaning it out, I found it and decided it needed to be in my crew cab. And I agree...
