What have you done to your square lately??

Cause that's how folks survive in that part of the state..... I'm guessing Alpine is probably the closest big town.... Used to have a musician/songwriter friend who lived in Alpine. When he was going to do some Texas gigs, he and his wife would drive one day to Austin, overnight with his...

    dash speaker brackets

I may have a set, I know I did at one time, in the square body truck parts I'm trying to sell at swap meets. Will try to look the next time I'm in the shop building, probably this weekend. I'm having a couple issues with the DD at the moment, gotta see how that turns out. Saturday may get...

What have you done to your square lately??

Oh yeah, gear oil is some slow stuff to get moving. Our '75 GMC Burb with the Cadillac running gear, when we got it the rear axle was leaking. You can imagine how much fun it was, trying to get 140W gear oil to pump out of the bucket, with a hand pump... especially since it was in January and...

    84 GMC 6500 "Hydroboost" Leaking

I think many issues with the GM hydro boost units may be due to the system being improperly or not completely bled. I replaced the master cylinder on my C3500 Crew Cab back in April, and the system would not bleed properly until my neighbor and I did the correct procedure. If the front of the...

1991 GMC suburban braided fuel return line at back of engine 5.7

Dad and I had to replace these lines on our '90 R2500 5.7 TBI several years ago. The biggest issue I remember was having to get on top of the engine and work down behind it, and there is not much space back there. Getting the lines snaked up from the bottom, between the firewall and...

    Ambulance Vans!

Pretty sure that's what the shop used on my '99 Burb, to delete the Passlock. Would've asked them to tune it while they had it, but they were already getting enough of my $$$ (and probably woulda laughed at me and my Burb since they build/tune Vettes, Camaros, CTS-V's etc.).

What new tools have you got lately?

Can't have too many 9/16" wrenches, working on Chevys. And cool vintage ones are even better.

What new tools have you got lately?

Nice score! The cardboard box on the shrink-wrapped pallet to the left of the picture, with the red stripes on it....I recognize those boxes because the company Mom and I used to work for, used those. It's called Readerlink, they are a book wholesaler and distributor, and the red stripes are...

    Show your daily driver

I had checked the spare but it apparently has more of a leak than I thought....will be getting a better used tire on that wheel if the wheel cleans up. I have a set of the NBS factory alloys for this truck, with used tires on them that are holding air. Just not sure how old they are, need to...

    Show your daily driver

Yup. Flat tires suck, whatever the reason. One cost me a day of work Friday, then $429 on Saturday afternoon to replace it and the left rear(bad tire was on the right rear too), including $75 for mobile service because my spare tire wouldn't hold air so we couldn't drive the truck a few blocks...

    Show your daily driver

Here's my daily, got new rear tires on it yesterday to replace the almost 10 year old and dry rotting michelins. They were on the truck when I got it in July '22 but didn't know they were that old; had a hand long crack between the treads.... No problem with em till Friday morning...blew out...

New from Kansas City - New Project, First Time

Welcome from Houston, Texas, got any pictures of the truck yet? I like the Chevy Sport and GMC Street Coupe trucks; we had some of those parts on our '78 Sierra shop truck at our parts store back in the day.

    What is this vehicle?

Those wagons were all built on the same chassis. So the grille, trim and some of the interior is different between the Buick, Olds and Chevy versions. Wheels may be different between the three, the wheelcovers are. Those were not super common when they were new; by the early 90s minivans and...

    91 Suburban Shopping Category

Yup....and y'all can imagine how much fun it is, to be a woman in this situation! I was looking up car parts in these things called "catalogs " way before you were born....so don't tell me I don't know what I'm working on!

What have you done to your square lately??

Our 79 Burb never had AC...the compressor was MIA when we got it in 1989. Even though it was a Silverado trim truck, had crank door windows but power tailgate window. We'd put that about half down, crank the door glass all the way down, hope we didn't get into too much traffic and keep a cooler...

    91 Suburban Shopping Category

The Suburban nameplate was used by GMC and Chevy through the OBS/GMT 400 models, through the 1999 model year. The 2000-up Suburban is a Chevrolet nameplate (starting that year with the new GMT 800 models) and at that point, GMC started calling their largest truck based SUV the Yukon XL. Fast...

Scores from DIY Parts Yards, Pull A Part, U Pull It etc

Most of the cashiers at the Houston LKQ's are female... sometimes they're more easygoing than others. I've had them try to nickel and dime me, and I've had times where I just got charged for most of the bigger items. When I first was going to the U Pull And Pay I was getting amazing deals...

Yes they do on most parts. But it varies a LOT... aluminum wheels are $15 each core, steel ones are $1.

    Old77’s GMT400 SWB 4x4 5-speed project/DD

GMT 400 extended cab floorpan is different than regular cab or Crew Cab, so the seat brackets are different. They look goooood in there...my Crew Cab has the same seat in tan. Regular bench in the back, with the fold down armrest/console.

What new tools have you got lately?

Yup....wire shelving. Made for closets, laundry rooms, etc. Dad bought some decades ago to store bungee cords on, works great for that since they're not all the same length. I want to get a piece to use for a portable display at the toy shows. I usually set up on the row against the back wall...

    GMSquarebody shirts idea...

There's a guy who comes to Lone Star Roundup in Austin, who sells T shirts with line drawings of cars and trucks on them. Some of the illustrations are 3/4 angle views, but many are front views. I personally like the later style grille version of that for my OBS trucks, since my Burb and CCLB...

Jan want and did it again, New old truck

Nice scores, great looking truck! I'm sure I will offend some folks by saying this...but in my opinion the GMT 400 trucks are the last truly good ones GM built. The family's had 8 squares over the years (3 pickups, 5 Burbs) and I have currently 2 400s; 99 Burb and 97 Crew Cab. These trucks are...
