jack the front of the car as high as you can get it, tha will help burp out the air- towman

High Voltage?
i would get the battery checked out first a weak battery will make the alternator work overtime, if the battery checks out check the voltage at the battery while running anything over 14.5 is to high and you have a bad voltage regulator wich is internal in the alt- towman

i know 87 has one in the drivers side manifold, you can buy a new dorman for under 100 -

one thing i have learned from thirty years in the shop never assume anything and always check the simple things first, if you didn't have a good connection jumping it it was in vain- towman

Tail lights
if the body shop pulled the bed back to paint the back of the cab check to see if they plugged the rear harness back together and as everyone else says the grounds- towman

Truck isn't starting after a new starter
check your connections at the battery, check voltage at the battery it takes 12.6 volts to make a starter work properly other items on the truck will work with less voltage start with the simple things first- towman
