How's the best way to tow this?
just a heads up, never trust just locking the wheel to tow a vehicle backwards. the little pot metal lock pins will break and it will stray off course. we usually use seat belt also or a good tarp strap out drivers door as a secondary securement. on big trucks I use a 1" ratchet strap, tarp...- towjoe

never jerk a stuck truck with a chain
we had a local guy killed last winter pulling out a stuck car in snow. he jerked chain and it broke sending a peace of chain through back window into his head. his 4 year old daughter was setting beside him and luckly she wasn't hurt. I'll stick to using my winch on wrecker personally- towjoe

427 tall deck motor swap
I have a 1980 k30 wrecker someone put a 366 tall deck in. I have a brand new crate 427 tall deck I keep entertaining idea of putting in my 1988 v3500 wrecker. Just have to buy a intake, stock motor mounts should bolt on the sides of it and not need that front mount.- towjoe

It hasn't been driven in 3-5 years, I wouldn't chance it. Heck bring an extra $1800 and I got a nice skid steer trailer that you can haul it home on and keep I got way much stuff -

The 78 is a pretty neat truck 4 speed factory tach. If it don't sell soon it it will end up cut up in parts on shelf. I had chance to sell axles but hated to cut it up since it is a pretty straight complete truck. -

hrdroboost power steering troubles
I've replaced the power steering pump, steering box, couple of the lines ect and still have to rev up the engine to get power steering to work at a idle. hydroboost also wont work untill it's reved up. I have exchanged pump 3 times now and even tried a used one off a wrecked truck in back lot...- towjoe
