    Ball joint

Earlier in my posts, I reported that I removed the right b-j fitting and before inserting it on the left side, I took a pick and stirred it around in the hole and there was nothing but fresh grease in there. That fitting didn't help so I replaced it with a new one. Believe me, I am not going to...

    Ball joint

Well yes, I'm turning the wheel from left to right. The waist high lift idea is to get the wheel high enough so someone with some real strength can easily grab the tire while standing up and jiggle it back and forth, in and out, up and down, all while turning it left and right as a second person...

    Ball joint

I bought one and it solved the problem on two of my fittings but it would not work on this ball joint' Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions. I'm going to try one more thing. I need to find someplace with a lift and get the wheel about waist high and while someone is applying...

    Ball joint

I have had this truck for 5 years and put about 2,300 miles a year on it. It now has 64,600 ligament miles on a factory stock suspension and I have not been able to get the lower left ball joint to accept grease. I don't know how long it has been like that but the piece of rubber around it feels...

    700R4.output shaft leak

I’m pretty sure it’s the output shaft o-ring causing the problem, along with a sloping garage floor. The hole is tapered from the outside to a very small hole in the inside of the cap. I filled it from the outside with some black RTV. I’m not sure if pressure would blow that stuff out.

    700R4.output shaft leak

How much damage can be done if I just plug the hole? I've seen slip yokes without a hole in the plug.

    700R4.output shaft leak

Yes, but the extended period is never more than 4 or 5 days. I figure the input shaft o-ring has probably failed and is allowing fluid to flow where it shouldn’t. I thought that maybe the hole had been there to center the yoke for machining. I have seen some videos where they suggest plugging...

    700R4.output shaft leak

The slip yoke on my driveshaft has a cap at one end with a hole in the center. The hole on the outside is about a 1/16” and much smaller on the inside of the cap. What is the hole for and could it be the source of an occasional fairly large fluid leak? There is nothing wrong with the output...

    A/C Compressor

I located a beautiful NOS Harrison model no. 1131622 R4 compressor to replace the fifth automotive store unit. It is set up for R-12 so what needs to be done to prepare it for 143a refrigerant and will the original seals be damaged or adversely affected? Thanks.

    R4 Compressor Help

Is there anyone on this site that has had any success with "NEW" R4 compressors being sold by the usual vendors: O Reilly, Auto Zone, Parts Geek, Rock Auto, and even a GM dealer in my location. I am having the fifth (5) one in the last five years replaced next week! The first two were Murray...

    Changing brake fluid

What a simple and GREAT idea. That's exactly what I am going to start doing at every oil change. Thanks!

    Gas smell

Thanks for the suggestion, Cal. When I began working on this truck in Sep. 2019, it had a cheap jerry rigged electric fuel pump by-passing the mechanical pump. I removed both pumps and after much grief and bad words, finally got the push rod out. It was bent so I bought a new rod and pump and...

    Mileage question/opinion

You can read more about it in the similar threads below, about bumper position. After sitting outside for thirteen years, on the dirt and facing due west, the sun, humidity and rain did their work on it in the usual places, cab corners, sills and floors. Bed and tailgate were in good condition...

    Mileage question/opinion

Thanks for your comment, you are the only one who replied to my question which was posted a long time ago. I tend to agree with you except for the fact that I have been connected with this truck since ‘92. It’s a long story that I recently posted in a thread about the front bumper position. I...
