^^^^ I agree with everyone's comments. That is one hot mess which would drive me bonkers :banghead: until I corrected everything. But I fear this is just the tip of the iceberg. You really need to see where those wires are going...you might just find out that some, if not all, are even needed!- RattleSnack

Polishing up the gauge lens
I did my gauge lens last year. This might sound crazy, but on a whim, I tried some Mothers Aluminum Wheel polish I had laying around. My lens was pretty crappy, so I figured if it didn't work...no big loss. Anyways, I tried it out and it made my lens look damn near new. I just rubbed it on...- RattleSnack

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.
Before you tear into it, maybe you could try this... Take the distributor cap off so you can see the rotor. Then, try to rock the motor back and forth by turning the crank or belt accessory by hand. That might give you an idea of how much chain slop you have. How many miles are on the 'ol girl?- RattleSnack

Looks like you tried all the usual suspects... Did you double-check your spark plug wires? Maybe you got some mixed up. My next guess would be that maybe your timing chain is stretched or jumped a tooth?....or maybe you have a worn lobe on the camshaft?- RattleSnack

Corp 14 bolt brake line difference question
Yep....ditto that. Also, the spring perch widths are different from 3/4 ton to 1 ton. The spring perch width (center to center) on your installed axle should be 42.5 in. The 1 ton axle in your second pic should have a 40.0 in. width. Just thought I'd mention that in case you were planning on...- RattleSnack

Yeah...I'm guessing someone body-swapped the Silverado body onto the CUCV chassis, and added the VIN tags. There's a remote chance that the cab is the original military.... do you have any interior pics? I prefer the regular. I buy a gallon bucket and use my spray gun...then I'll use spray cans for touch-ups. I've seen the black Fluid Film used before, and I didn't really care for how it looked....it seemed to have a messy wet-look. If you're looking for a nice satin/flat black look, then...- RattleSnack

I'll second that.....and take it one step further, and suggest a rust preventive like Fluid Film. I use it on all my vehicles and had pretty good results. I spray the undercarriage, inside the doors, fenders, tailgate, etc. But I also keep my squarebodies hibernated in the garage for the...- RattleSnack
