It has been brought to my attention that the original leaf springs on my 1987 GMC Suburban v1500 4x4 (1/2 ton) are sagging and should be replaced.
I'm not sure how closely I should follow original specs when picking out replacements (weight capacity and number of leafs)...

Found a document from GM which seems to have answers to many of my questions.
Do I understand correctly that the main differences on the 1987 v2500 Suburban (gas) are:
v2500 vs v1500
FRONT AXLE CAPACITY
3,800lbs vs 3,600lbs
REAR AXLE CAPACITY
6,000lbs vs 4,000lbs
REAR LEAF SPRING CAPACITY...
