Just an update for this conversation.
I have since chopped up a barn door burb and my 2wd blazer and put the burb roof and barn doors on my blazer.

I did this back in 2013 when very few people had thought it up. Now there are at least three companies like off road design north west fabworks and other offering to do the machine work to do this. Lol
73 to 80 use different body mounts than 81 to 87 but as long as you use the correct mounts for the year of the frame any cab 73 to 87 will bolt on.

I had an 88 suburban with the stock rally wheels. the rear wheel was stuck on it. I had to beat right on the wheel with a sledge hammer. at the time I had no access to any way to heat it was not at home.

why because I built it from scratch started wit a bare frame. put to much money in it.

there is not a single hole on the front that will line up. I just done the opposite.
the rear spring hangers are taller on a 4x4 so they will need changed
your 12 bolt is easy just put 2 wheel drive 5 lug axle shafts in it from a 12 bolt

I would swap in a 5.3 4l60 and run it. I daily drive a 06 with a 5.3 I am building its replacement now a 84 crew cab lifted with big tires and a vortec 383 I will be lucky to hit 16 mph but I don't care its a square that will be mine and stand apart from the clone drones everyone else is driving...
