Based on the test results, removing the relay drastically reduced the draw. I found some merchants on ebay that had parts. I ordered 2 new relays so i have one as a backup. I found an extremely overprices 6port 1pin selector valve but i figured at this point a three hundred dollars of a...
Voltage Monitoring
Battery - DieHard 75FT-3 (700 CCA) - 1-2 months old
Conditions - I removed the fuel selector timer relay so the truck can only run on the primary tank (RH), battery is connected to both pos and neg
Result Expectations
- if the voltage stays around 12.5-12.7 after 3 days...
the relay is on select 1980s only so pretty limited use from GM. I removed the relay yesterday to monitor voltage and test the drop over the couple days. hopefully this will provide actionable results so i can buy an overpriced relay or a design a work around
Here is a photo of the relay (its...
To start - i have a 1980 K10 with dual saddle tanks. The selector valve is a 1-pin and the truck has the special fuel selector timer relay that allows fuel to be pulled form the aux tank during extended cranking. I am seeing a voltage drop of about 2.5v after 3 days of sitting. I used a...
Just did another check and it looks like it may be the valve cover. This wasnt here yesterday so must have dripped over night. Thanks for the idea to double check. It was a long night under the truck in the rain yesterday so my mind went to the worst possible culprit first. Ill recheck valve...
There were leaks but this one occurred after startup and only during running of the vehicle (as of right now). I will recheck the size of the spot when i get home to see if it had grown. This spot was not there before i did the test startup yesterday. The new Valve covers and gaskets look clean
i ordered some UV oil dye and a black light for further investigation. I will have to be careful to keep the blacklight out of the cab.. prefer not to know what has gone on in there
You are everywhere on this forum! haha
Might ask for your guidance on a similar fix on my truck. Ordered some oil dye to pinpoint a leak but after the start up today, there new oil leaks on the ground and starter so it leads me to believe my rear main seal is a likely culprit.
I went to 4 pull-a-parts in my state and they were picked clean. I did spend too much money on a couple 90s model chevy dipsticks because they were similar and length and i was going to see if one of them would work. When i got home, i did not think it was worth the trouble so i just finessed...
