If anyone is wondering, I've came from a street racing and class-racing with rulebooks background. My mentality on modifications is not average. I don't have an issue with knowing what works best or how to make power. I was raised on "sleepers".
I would rather people see a Quadrajet, iron...
You are correct in that I am not familiarized with all of the different markings and their associated castings. I am with double humps, the single, Vortecs, etc... the desirable heads. I started with the 5.0 efi Ford cars and went to LS1s. Could tell you anything you wanted to know about those...
North GA, but not interested in double humps. If I end up changing from what was stock it will be to Vortecs or Dart/Brodix heads down the road. 186s won't be hard to get rid of, though
GM started the lightweight castings in late 74. I did not know how to spot the differences from an external view. Blocks, either. Thanks a bunch for the pictures!
Ive never messed with the smog-era heads, but the castings usually have giveaways on the front face of the heads as to what they are, such as the double/camel humps. They're known as that due to outside casting markers, not the internal ones. The other part of it is OCD (I guess).
The two castings that are pulling up that seem to be possible are 882 and 624. I don't know if they were getting both for different packages, which I can't see why they would, or if maybe they were getting different castings depending on the plant assembling them.
I do know that according to...
I've got a pretty good grip on what's available and what is good and what isn't. I know whatever came on these is going to be sh*t and know that they came with 1.72" intake valves.
This is just a fun sleeper experiment for me. I expect a bone stock looking AND sounding engine that will produce...
Mild, stock appearing setup is what I'm shooting for. Will be doing a lot of hidden work. Goals aren't as high as modern engines, but will be much more than OEM.
I've done this, I know what I have , and that what I have is not original. Mine are 80-up heads and I'm doing a restoration and cannot find what the 77s wore.
Can anyone tell me what the stock casting numbers are for a 1977 K10. The traditional lists are of no help. Will likely require someone having a factory 77 engine to check or have checked prior. Thanks.
No problems with what you've posted. I'm usually a blunt typer and I hope I've not came across rude either in us having different opinions. I mean no illness in attitude.
My opinion, off of what I've read from your end is yours is more weighted towards the handling and braking end. My issue is...
Disagreeing is your rright. I'm curious as to what experiences you've had on personal vehicles that you've spent a lot of time in. The first time I noticed this was my very first vehicle. A bone stock fox body 5 speed. A wheel swap only that was 6lbs lighter per corner, same tires was the...
