    4:10 gears for 86 k10

The only thing I miss from 3.08 gears was second gear pulled hard over a much wider range, like 15 MPH to 40 MPH. So in traffic now I need to shift more. Second gear winds up pretty fast but it's a work truck not a race car.

    4:10 gears for 86 k10

Exactly, I used to be constantly downshifting the MT on interstate hills before regearing. The original 3.08 gears were hideous. I was slipping my clutch to prevent stalling from a dead stop on steep hills with a light load. The emissions from that era choked HP which didn't help.

    4:10 gears for 86 k10

I put 4:10 gears in my '83 K10 which has a 0.73 O/D w/ 31" tires. It plows and hauls wood like a beast but rev's a bit on the highway. Speed limit was 55 MPH back in the day when I re-geared it.

HIT THE IGN. KEY AND NOTHING

Everybody knows you just hit it harder to speed it up

How does this sort of thing happen????

Yup I caught a Honda dealer red handed doing EXACLY this. I put whiteout on the rubber bleeder caps to make sure they removed them. Nope, they never touched them but were happy to take my $120 for the turkey baster M/C refill. I never heard of the metal shaving in the diff, that's just plain...

    Leaf Spring Torque

Wow we are not the only ones going around on this topic. Consensus seems to be not re-using is the safe bet but that's not surprising https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/re-using-basically-new-u-bolts.818595/

    Leaf Spring Torque

I installed an add a leaf lift kit on my '83 K10 truck when it was a youngster, had to replace most of the Ubolts but I'm pretty sure I reused the ones that were long enough. When I replace the bed and rebuild the truck I'll think about getting new ones. Where are the stresses on these bolts?

    Leaf Spring Torque

Honestly If somebody told me 40 years ago when I reused some Ubolts on my 83 K10 it could be a problem I would not have done it, I was a dumb 25 year old kid what did I know. Now I'm a dumber 64 year old. The same truck is still in one piece so all is well. I certainly wont be using these ubolts...

    Leaf Spring Torque

Darn wish I knew that 40 years ago. I don't even remember using a torque wrench.

    Leaf Spring Torque

Are you saying Axle U bolts are one time use once they've been installed?

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

Why is the MSD unit so much larger than an OEM HEI Ignition module? I know heat sinking is important but the size difference is huge.

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

So what's the safest way to disable ignition if you want to crank the engine without it starting? Pull the electrical connector plug on the side of the distributor?

    Gas in Oil!?

Mine was something like this gas filter, just not the exact same PN Yes metal generic can with simple barb on each end The problem with plastic is over time it becomes brittle and cracks as I found out. That was the second time I brought my truck in for an emission inspection and I was told to...

    Gas in Oil!?

I also learned the hard way never use plastic fuel filters, always get the metal can. I drove my truck to the garage for its yearly emission test with gas spurting under the hood as I drove into the shop. I was so lucky it didn't start an engine fire. I replaced it with a metal one in the...

    Gas in Oil!?

I have the same problem having to crank and crank a long time after it's been sitting for a week. I've found if I set the choke with a firm press of the gas pedal and maybe one more pedal pump, just leave it for 10 seconds or so with foot off the gas, then Turn the key (foot off gas). If it...
