    6.7 Cummins Suburban Build

They are pretty amazing, and the prices have come way down. The place where they struggle is with shiny, and dark surfaces. It takes some technique to learn to use it without it losing its tracking. They rely on visual reference points, so for large flat / contoured surfaces, you need to use...

    6.7 Cummins Suburban Build

I will.... right now, I am focusing on smaller components that I am using for the build, but once I have the thing mastered, I will put up a model of the truck body. The model I used seems to fairly dimensionally correct, so I am happy to share a link to the files. I will also post a link to...

    6.7 Cummins Suburban Build

I have kept careful track of the costs...... So far I am in this truck for 37k not counting my time. I could have done it a lot cheaper, but I wanted this to be done right. I have also made some mistakes along the way, had to rebuild wiring harness several times, which have added to the costs...

    6.7 Cummins Suburban Build

It has been a while since I got time to work on the truck. Next step for my build is to build a new rear bumper with swing out tire carrier. I had fabricated a swing down hitch mounted carrier, but it was a real pain, because the 37" wheels are HEAVY. Having to dead lift it each time I wanted...

Cargo slide-out: I have not done a great job of documenting the build recently, but here is what I have on the cargo slide out. I picked up a set of 60" locking drawer slides from Vevor. Bolted them to the frame using 1/4" angle. Then using 1" angle and 5/8 birch ply, I made a tray frame...

Planning my Suburban build - Advice wanted

As stated above, I'd definitely lean towards a GM D60. That what I did for my build and couldn't be happier with it. It was a straight bolt in, the brakes are awesome and its as strong. You'd end up spending a lot of time and money modifying a ford D60 to fit. You may also need a driver side...

    6.7 Cummins Suburban Build

Bumper is powder coated and installed. I got the winch on and wired up, and installed some quarter lights. The wiring was very easy, I tapped into the headlight wiring harness. At first lights didn't work at all, then I realized that the LEDs are polarity sensitive, so repining the connector...

Here are a few more. You can see how tight of a fit the winch is. In fact you have to install it with the bumper off. There is not enough clearance to mount the winch with the bumper installed.

Front Bumper Build: I wasn't originally planning to change bumpers......but.....events have changed my mind. 1: I got stuck on a remote road in the eastern sierras earlier back in September. 40degree side incline in very soft sand.....for a minute I thought I was going to turn the truck...

Other things that I have done since the last update. 1: Installed the D60 with the OX Locker 2: Installed cross over steering 3: Built a winch bumper for the front 4: Built a bed slide for the cargo area I still need to fix the air conditioning issue, and to figure out a swing away tire...

    6.7 Cummins Suburban Build

It's been a while since I updated this thread....lots of progress and adventures! I took the truck on a 5 day trip through the white rim road in July. It was HOT. It was a great test for the cooling system, which held up fine. Engine temps stayed under 210 even when climbing out of the...

I love the Dakota gauges! They are very responsive, and having a tach is awesome. So far I've had no issues. Fuel gauge works perfectly with the Dodge in-tank sender. Temp gauge is accurate. Voltage also seems to work well. There are a few downsides I should mention. Oil pressure reading...

I just haven't had time to figure out how the grid heater should be wired up and whether it should be controlled by the ECU. The symptom was a dead battery. It wouldn't even turn the engine over, so the grid heater wouldn't have helped me in this case........as soon as I had a jump start it...

Front Axle: I put some time in to regearing the front D60. The axle came with 4.10 gears, but the truck is 3.73. I am very happy with the 3.73 ratio. I can run on the highway at 75 mph at approximately 2000 rpms and 1600 at 65mph. I have never felt like it was geared too high. I got a...
