New to the square body scene

First off, Welcome aboard. Super cool looking truck you have. Like vonMinden said, Q-jets aren't that complicated. Either get that one rebuilt. Or, get on line (Summit Racing, etc.) for a new, or rebuilt one. I know Summit has Q-jets both ways. Been trying out their own (Summit) line of...

Help! My coolant temp heats up fast in idle or slow-moving traffic (around 210F+) then decreases when I start driving (around 170F-190)

Most likely a worn out fan clutch. I use the Hayden 2797 Severe Duty fan clutch on all of my trucks. The severe duty locks up sooner. And free wheels later than the standard duty, or heavy duty ones. Yes, it will make more noise. I would rather have a fan making more noise, pulling more air...

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

Your glove compartment label shows the C6P Heavy Duty Emissions designation. The door label shows the GVWR at 8600. That is the none Cat equipped identifiers from G.M. However, the thing that DOES make your truck REQUIRE Cats is the California Emission code of YF5. California required Cats...

    78 k10 starter problem

The factory timing for you 1978 is 8 degrees before top dead center. Idle speed is 800 rpm warm and with the choke off.

    Motor mounts

No need to remove exhaust. I remove the distributor cap, place a hydraulic jack on the front axle below the oil pan. Make sure to put a 3/8" flat piece of steel on top of the jack between it and the oil pan. Slowly jack up the engine until you can remove the through bolts. Unbolt the three bolts...

Can someone tell me the length of the z bar/bell crank for an 83 K10, manual clutch?

Bad transmission or motor mount (on the drivers side) will allow the engine to "raise up" when accelerating. That results in the the Z bar being pulled of of the pivot ball. When that happens, you will lose the clutch operation. I installed new motor mounts, along with both of the new pivot...

    K30 crew cab headers???

I use Hedman 69110 on two different BBC in square body K series trucks. Both are short bed manual transmissions.

Best way to run power from truck battery to trailer winch. Quick disconnect ends.

I use #2 gauge welding cable to run a "charge wire" to the rear off all my trucks. At the battery I make a short 10" cable. One 3/8" lug goes to the battery positive terminal. The other end gets a 1/4" lug. The 1/4" end goes to a 150 amp auto reset circuit breaker input stud. The cable going to...

    Starter Wiring

Hey Marine; I know this is an older thread. However, listen to this old 'Nam Vet Marine and learn something. Just like Fast 99 stated, you can buff, sand or replace. However, 99 did not tell you the rest of it. So, here goes....... Remove your starter from the truck. Lay it on your work...

Which motor mounts work for my truck?

The rubber for a small block is: 2292. The engine bracket is: 334970. The engine bracket probably has been superseded, or discontinued by G.M. That is not a problem. Just research the 334970 number for the new number. I have had to do that many times. Also FYI, if your 4x4 had an automatic...

    Motor Mounts for 454

Small block motor mounts are: 2292. Big block motor mounts are: 2395. The big block mounts are 5/16" taller at the center line of the sleeve for the through bolt. Which passes through the big block and 6.2 diesel "clamshell" 14037875.

    What headers will fit a Blueprint 454 in a 1987 K10/V10

The Hedman 69110 is what I used on a 454 swap with no problems on a '78 K-10. Also used the same 69110 Hedman on another 454 swap into an '83 K-10. Had plenty of room to even use the Delco 10MT starter on both trucks.

    350 to 454 in a K10: What Motor Mounts?

I know this is an older thread. The engine brackets for a big block or the 6.2 diesel are GM 14037875. Those bolt to the engine block themselves. All of these are older numbers which have been superseded: 00331287 discontinued 01 Mar. '82, 00334605 discontinued 01 Jun. '84, 14037875...

Disney Oklahoma -- anyone ever been?

I know this is an old post. I just joined the site today. YES, Disney, OK. at Grand Lake is a great place to go wheel. Been there many times with, The Oklahoma Trail Chasers, our four wheel drive club. There are many trials in the woods. Ranging from mild (stock vehicles) to wild (credit card...

never jerk a stuck truck with a chain

Chains are for tying down equipment when hauling. Chains are designed for static loading. Not for shock loading, such as when used to jerk on anything. There are correct types of recovery straps for that. However, the best plan of attack, to reduce the damage risk to vehicles, or folks standing...
