I think I figured out my brake problem

Yup - and that's my plan. I guess my question was really: is it stupid to just replace them versus getting them resurfaced. And also is there a better brand or just stick with OEM? I always lean towards replace and OEM but it never hurts to ask people who might know more. :)

I think I figured out my brake problem

My brakes have never been great. I didn't expect it to be like a new truck but you really need to push to stop. It IS barely possible to make the tires skid if you push hard enough, but it's not easy. I was wondering if it was a vacuum problem and I can't say I've tested the vacuum between the...

    Planning my next next project...engine?

I actually missed the link. I'll keep an eye out for one of those model cars. That's pretty cool. We don't have much in the way of pick-a-part places around here. They charge you $75 just to enter (seriously) and almost everything has been picked through and all the engines are pulled out and...

    Planning my next next project...engine?

OK, so I'm trying to keep up with you on this because a lot of it is Greek to me. Where could I acquire TBI heads? I'm not seeing anything on the used market. I've found a few articles. My understanding so far is that I could look for something off of a 91~ SBC. I'm reading that they will bolt...

    Planning my next next project...engine?

Do they make a stoich-o-meter? This is something I haven't even looked into, but I think the carb came pretty close. I say that just based on the plug color (Disclaimer: I really only know the colors of 2-strokes). It's cocoa brown and dry-ish. I only checked plugs 1&2. When I get on it, it...

    Planning my next next project...engine?

OK - Money is an object. My whole reason for asking is that I want to spend wisely. I have a new Edelbrock AVS2 so I wanted to stay carbureted. If I went EFI I'd probably just go with an LS which I may do someday, but for now, I'm enjoying the process of learning about this motor. I was...

    Planning my next next project...engine?

Compression on all cylinders is the same - I do have a compression gauge, I just don't know what number it's supposed to have. It reads 135 on each. Oil pressure seems fine on the stock gauge (it has a direct oil line. It goes to zero when it's off and goes to about 70% on the gauge when the...

    Planning my next next project...engine?

OK, my current project is suspension and getting the rig to feel comfortable to drive. Right now it's scary at 45mph. I can't imagine going freeway speeds, but I'm not sure if it could go freeway speeds. Then maybe body work...or... I keep watching videos on improving the performance of the...

    V2500 4in lift replacement? ORD?

I put them on my RV in the back just to give it more stability. I felt like it wandered way too much for my comfort. It helped a ton. They were flawless for a few years. Plus then I had an air compressor on board. After about 5 years they developed a small leak somewhere in the line to the tank...

    NP203 leaking. Replace or fix?

What do you think about buying a second TC just because it's available and local and $100?

    V2500 4in lift replacement? ORD?

Just to follow up on this, the problem was the pitman arm. It seems like there no backlash on the spline coming off the steering box and the frame isn't cracked. The arm seems to be wandering on the bolt that's hold it in place. The bolt was not loose, but not fully tightened either. I tightened...

    NP203 leaking. Replace or fix?

I need to address the leaky elephant in the room. Luckily the only place my truck leaking (making it to the ground anyway) is the transfer case. It's an NP203 (full time 4wd/chain driven). It's leaking out of the output shaft area and the speedometer cable (which I'm guessing isn't good). I...

    V2500 4in lift replacement? ORD?

I dug into this a little tonight. I tightened the adjuster 1/4 turn at a time until the steering started to be a little resistant and then went back 1/4 turn. Still has about 4-5" of slop at the wheel (18"). The problem appears to be the steering arm that goes onto the splines. When you turn the...

    V2500 4in lift replacement? ORD?

I wonder the same thing. It becomes costly by the time you get the 2wd steering box and either a new machined knuckle or find someone who can machine yours. Also I've seen a few YouTube's where the parts they buy give zero clearance for the oil pan. If it only helps bump steer I'm not sure it's...

What have you done to your square lately??

I tried to find a good thread on best practices to remove the resistor wire and replace it in the wire harness etc but I need a tach wire run anyway so I'll just run two new wires (one for Tach) and just cap the resistor wire to off in the wire loom. Thanks for warning me about that.
