Vapor Barrier behind new door panels?

Thanks for the response. Last time I did one I remover using some sort of weatherstrip sealant - I’ll need to look into that butyl tape.

Vapor Barrier behind new door panels?

Hi all. I have a 1981 C10 Silverado. Ordered new reproduction door panels that should be arriving early next year. When I messed with door panels in the past there was always a plastic vapor barrier between the panel and the door. There currently is no sign of one on this truck, and the door...

Question about center grilles - 81-87

Is this the component that the grille would mount to? (LMC calls it a “lower grille panel). https://www.usa1industries.com/1983-87-square-body-chevy-gmc-truck-front-bumper-to-grille-panel/

Question about center grilles - 81-87

Ha. I had to to exactly that when the center flange snapped off, but no suitable place at the edges. Maybe looking at it again after a good night’s sleep will shake something loose. I could probably make some supports out of stiff wire. It is very well secured at the top so it won’t need much...

Question about center grilles - 81-87

BTW - before and after pics. To my eye it is a huge improvement.

High horn not working on a 1981 C10 Silverado

The horn saga is over for now. I found one off of a ‘76 that mounted in yet another way I had never seen before - but the bracket was the same as mine, only reversed. I tried to find somebody who was willing to cut the bracket and weld it back on reversed but no shop will do anything for less...

Question about center grilles - 81-87

Yep - you are exactly right and I spoke too soon. The top secures nicely and the center screw on the bottom fits nicely, but there are two flanges on either side of the bottom are unsupported. So you are saying that these attach to the splash guard and not the headlight bezels? Yes, I’d like...

Question about center grilles - 81-87

Final answer: an ‘87 grille fits in my ‘81 C10. Have to remove the headlight bezels to get it in and then replace, but that’s the only thing about it.

Question about center grilles - 81-87

That’s my next option if I don’t come up with a grille this trip.

Question about center grilles - 81-87

OK, that’s interesting and good to know. Hopefully the seller has those too, if needed. He’s parting out three trucks all in the same year range, so chances are good has them and the ones currently on my truck are not in the best shape anyway. Thanks.

Question about center grilles - 81-87

I did the same search in LMC, USA-1 and other sites but I’m not convinced based on that evidence alone. I’m hoping somebody has direct experience. I’m heading out there tomorrow regardless to pick up a horn, so will have my answer soon. Would just be nice to know before I go so I can better...

Question about center grilles - 81-87

I have a 1981 C10 Silverado with dual headlights and one of those 1980’s JC Whitney-style billet center grilles that I’d dearly love to replace with anything more stock looking. I found a decent stock C10 center grille about an hour away from me off of a 1987 truck (photo below). Will it fit...

    Same horns all years?

Good news is that I found a horn about an hour away and am going to pick it up tomorrow. At 8mpg, the gas is going to cost me more than the horn, but he might also have a grille that fits so Incan finally get rid of that gawdawful billet grille.

    Blower Issue

Just wanted to get this out there in case anybody else comes across this problem. Originally the blower on my 1981 C10 Silverado would only work on the first three speeds and never on high. I heard that this often is because of the high speed blower cutout relay being bad. Without starting the...

High horn not working on a 1981 C10 Silverado

Yep - gave it a good try. Soaked it in aerokroil for over a day, emptied it and then tapped it progressively harder - checking continuity and testing with power between steps - until I was dropping it on the floor. It never came back to life. It's dead. Bummer.
