    Bearing wear

Thanks for the replies, like I said in the post where I was asking about the gaskets its been a long time since I have helped with working on motors. I have worked on my personal 4x4 trucks for 40 years. 2wd to 4wd conversion's, lifts, axle swaps, tranmission swaps and most any repair in...

    Bearing wear

I have attached a couple of pictures of one of the main caps and rod cap bearings form a 160k mile 1993 454 I’m working on. Does this wear seem excessive. The crank appears to smooth without any grooves or distortion. These are the only 2 I have removed so far.

    Replacing 454 gaskets opinion

Hey, thanks. Its been a long time since I was a teenager and worked on engines, and mostly an observer then. I'm 57 now. The ring at the top of cylinder was a crusty black substance which I thought may have been burnt oil residue.

    Replacing 454 gaskets opinion

Well I got the intake and heads pulled off this afternoon. It appears to me that it may be burning some oil or maybe not as I haven't disassembled a lot of engines. There is like a dark oil like ring at the top of each cylinde Also the cross honing marks are visible in each cylinder, but it...

    Replacing 454 gaskets opinion

Thanks for all of the replies, yeah this started out as just find a running engine and put in the truck and go, but with the truck body and frame being in such good shape and 34K original miles and also having the body off the the frame I'm like "I might as well do it right while I'm at this...

    Replacing 454 gaskets opinion

Thanks, yeah I had thought about if I pulled the heads I could have a look at that. I was blown away at how clean it was when I pulled a valve cover off, I was told it was a one owner who only used it to put a boat in and out at the beach and occasional trips.

    Replacing 454 gaskets opinion

Hello, I have finally had an opportunity to pull my donor 160k mile 1993 454 engine to swap into a 1980 K30, the engine ran as smooth as a 2024 model when pulled. The only oil leaks that I see right now are a leaking power steering line, maybe oil coolers lines and valve covers. (bolts were...

Before really getting under the Surburban and seeing the frame and body mount rust, I had felt bad about using it as a donor. The interior is in great shape and from looking at the outside I could have cutout and replaced the rusted panels, wheel wells and bumpers. But the frame was just to...

Thanks for all of the welcomes, over the past week I have had an opportunity to work on my project some and got my donor 454/4l80e(2wd) pulled out and verified that the tail shaft is fully splined and my t-case is is 32 spline input and now just to get the .066 machined off the mounting flange...

My donor vehicle is a 1993 C2500 Chevrolet Suburban Silverado Pkg. 454 TBI 4L80 Corporate 14 Bolt FF 3.73 gears 160,000 miles ECM #16147060 for future reference. It runs and drives very good, just the body is rusted out from being around the beach. Such a shame.

Hello, I am a new member but have been searching and reading post about different subjects for several years. I currently have a project truck I bought about a year and a half ago and I am finally ready to get started with it. I have already have a donor vehicle 1993 Suburban 2WD 454/4L80 that...
