1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Oh yeah, the O2 sensor ground (pin D6?), was NOT present previously. All the results above, and the surging in closed loop are WITH the ground present. I grounded D6 with a jumper cable. O2 reads now, but o2, blm, and int tables barely register.

Bill, here are the voltage/ohm readings. The key on, engine off readings were taken cold.

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Bill, I took all the voltage and ground readings, will post those from my phone in a minute, but I'm posting the winALDL log I took this morning while the truck warmed up and I took readings. It is/was mid-70's outside and the truck was stone cold, not started for days. I think I started the...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Bill, just found this thread where the OP sounds like he has the same issue I do (no O2, int, blm cells populate). His issue was a chip burned to ignore the o2. I did get the o2 cells to populate a couple cells one time on one of the earlier data logs I posted, so I’m not sure it’s apples to...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Bill, I have not checked d6 to ground, will today after work. I used a 3-wire to 1-wire adapter harness. It just has flying leads for +12 and ground and a mating cylindrical connector for the existing 1-wire connector on the factory body loom. So I didn’t do anything to have put power on d6...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

3-wire O2 was unpowered, unheated while I was bench testing it. I was only measuring the element response. One probe to sensor pin/wire, the other to O2 case/ground. The 3-wire sensor WAS heated when installed in the truck and showing readings at the ECM pin. Is there any reason that...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Bill, Temp sensor wasn’t unplugged or disturbed, don’t know what to say about that. On winALDL the temp matches reality, i.e., if it’s in the 60’s out and truck is cold it reads 60’s, then it climbs up to 190 ish or whatever as truck warms up. So it seems to behave normally? So it seems the...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Been off on a dozen other things, and bought a 2005 LLY Duramax 3500 with blown head gasket, but back on trying to figure out what’s up with the Suburban. Here are the cold engine, key on, engine off readings. I had a battery charger on the truck. Resistance btwn D7 o2 sensor pin at ecu...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Th400 was rebuilt just before I bought it, so trans was definitely out. Don’t think engine was, but don’t know. Rear AC doesn’t work (yet). I replaced the compressor, condenser, evaporator, dryer. I pulled and flushed rear evaporator and flushed all lines and hoses. I haven’t vacuumed...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

Thanks, lol. I figured if I gave good background what I’ve tried it would get better results. The problem has sort of morphed along the way, but have made lots of progress. Mike

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

I went ahead and installed the 3-wire O2 but just rigged up the power to it temporarily. There are more O2 sensor readings now, but it doesn't change a lot. It still populates zero cells in the BLM or INT tables. I don't know why. It does populate the O2 table cells though. I took a short...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

I went and drove it while you were posting that to see what happened. I did get a few hundredths change and it populates 3 cells of the O2 table. The truck has what look like aftermarket cast manifolds. The O2 sensor is on the driver side collector, o2 reading only changed when I got on it a...
