Not sure if this has been done before, but found an easy way to muscle that 50lb cast iron intake manifold under the hood and straight down onto the top of the engine. I had a heck of a time lifting it out and realized I would never get it back in. So...

I bolted a 2x4 to my cherry picker to extend its reach, plucked the intake off of the bench, rolled it into the engine bay, and dropped it straight down onto the top of the engine prepped with the gaskets and sealer.

I am always working by myself, and have to figure out ways to get things done without any help, you know, work smarter... not harder. Well, I was feeling pretty good about myself... feeling pretty smart. Then I walked straight into the piece of the 2x4 that was still sticking out of the back of the hoist.

A "smart" guy would have trimmed that extra piece of wood off, or at least watched where he was going.
Oh well, back to reality for me!

Another little tip on intake manifolds. Make 2 long studs by cutting the heads off of some long bolts. Now on just 1 head install your 2 long studs 1 at each end of the head. Now you can get the manifold close, slide it down the 2 studs install a few bolts snug to keep everything in place, then remove your studs.
