opened up both diffs to check fluid state. besides being an idiot and wiping stuff with a paper towel and getting lint everywhere, i'm pleased to find that everything must have been serviced not long before I bought it. everything looks fairly new internally. I've put less than 10k on it in the 6 years I've owned it. @Jrgunn5150 already confirmed that my 14ff locker is a Detroit in my build thread. I'm now looking to identify the D60f:

What does the other side of the front carrier look like? The sides that are either on the top or bottom in the pics. Right now, it kinda looks like an open carrier. It wasn't unheard of for the m1008 trucks to get a front locker, but most were open diff. The m1028 or m1031 were standard with the front lockers.

I'll open it up when I get a chance to get some better angles. it will spin all four at the same time in gravel while hooked to a concrete truck. not sure if that is a telling sign or not...

edit: maybe an lsd?

yeah, that isn't really a guarantee, technically, if they have an equal lack of traction, they should both spin. Don't get me wrong, that would be seriously badass, if you ended up with one of the few m1008s to leave the service with a front locker, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

if it's open, what is the best locker for snow road performance...not rock crawling and something that won't double my turning radius?

I hate to say it, but that rear diff looks like a Gov-loc rear, not the detroit locker that should be in there.

This is the pic of a 14 bolt I sold last summer, that had the gov-loc, which is a limited slip type diff instead of a true locker.

There really isn't any front locker that is good for street use. The front hubs would need to be unlocked(or at least one of them) to allow the fornt tires to turn at different speeds going through a corner.

do you have a picture of the Detroit that came in your 14ff?

is it normal for my front end to push when in 4 low, effectively doubling my turning radius?

give me a bit, I can go out and pop the cover.

yes, four low will push the front around.

Yes, if you have a locker.

The rear goes inside a open carrier, so it's tricky to see.

For the front, I would run a Detroit there as well, and just unlock a hub if I want to run sharp offroad. Getting into ARB's or OX's doubles the cost, and any type of "posi" is just going to unload as soon as you lift a front tire.

All depends how it’s set up.
