U sure? Both my '78's had the style line on the front of the hood and I know my Suburban is original. I've read before that it started in '78.

I do remember now that my '78 K10 Stepside had a bolt in the cowl at the end of each fender. I remember looking at them and saying "what are these for?" and removing them lol

Going of your first post in this thread, your hood appears to be a replacement.

I didn't buy my '78 new or even know the history of it. But the hood has every last sign of being original to the truck and it has the flat front.

Here's a close up of the reinforcement plate on my original '78 hood:

I also have a known original hood from a '79 Suburban on my '84 C10, it has the plate on it too, which means that '79 Burb had the center peg as well.

And the extra hole for the '77-'80 inside hood release setup can be seen here:

(It's the little rectangular hole, it's where the safety catch goes into the hood)

It seems to be a '78-'80 Suburban and K5 thing and not trucks? Since K5's and Suburbans were classified as station wagons, maybe the crash testing regulations were a little more strict?

I worker for a Pontiac GMC dealer back in the 70's , the studs at the fenders where for holding the hood in place in a collision . There are round slots in the back of the hood hinges that align with the studs when the hood is closed .
I think idahovette got it right the center is to hold the hood in place also .
Looks like some thing California would come up with .

I am pretty sure my 1980 doesn't have it either. I will have to look to double check.

Of all my 73-87 trucks I've had, I've never seen these.

From a 80 Burb.

Cannot remember if the 77 had any of those.

'77 had the ones at the rear of the fenders. I haven't been around the earlier trucks lately, but I think they had them too.

The one in the center is the odd one. So far, it seems to be a '78-'80 K5/Suburban thing.

The 74 GMC cab I bought has the two side ones, the strap is covering the driver's side, but you can barely see the passenger side one.
I saw a 79-80 cab and chassis for sale with the center bolt setup.

My 78 has the side ones and the rear center hole in the hood but not the extra in the front of the hood
