Thanks for welcome, and the info. I can't wait to get my truck running right so I can get on to other projects ( needs paint pretty bad) Ect. I actully discovered GM Square Body on one of HotrodPC's posts on craigslist. I live in a small town called Corn (not popcorn, just corn) a few miles south of weatherford.

I wish it were making me something, but at least maybe the Okies will outnumber the Texans soon.

And when I recruit, look at the good stuff that comes in. Burbs with Gear Shfters, and 3/4 tons, and 4x4's !!! :waytogo:

Now we need to figure out how we can help 76C20 post up some pics and help him out with this crab issue. Can't have no Chevy falling on its face when you hit the throttle. I was kinda thinking weak accelerator pump in the carb myself, but that would even be noticeable in Park, off idle rev.

That would make sense all except for the black smoke.

The big air valves on the top of the carb are connected to the fuel rods going into the Jets for secondary butterflys and they are MASSIVE. If that vacuum pod is not holding the flaps from opening they will just open early when with the vacuum going through the carb and dumping fuel into the engine.

The vaccume pod is supposed to be in closed condition while the engine is idling or cruising (building vacuum) and the extra fuel and air is not needed. once the vacuum goes away (accelerating) and there is a demand for air and fuel the pod will release the secondary air valves when the condition is right

If the truck sat for a while the thin rubber diaphram inside that pod could be cracked and leaking rendering it useless.

With the truck idling does the linkage I circled hold the Secondary flaps closed?

Yes, the secondaries are held shut. I actually unpluged the vaccum line and drove the truck. It seemed to do better, I put the footfeed to the floor and the truck took off like never before, but the next time I tried it on same drive it started doing the same thing again. Frustration setting in !!!! Must stay calm !!

If you unplugged the vacuum pod and it improved performance thats strange! Are you posetive black smoke is coming out of the exhaust?
