I bought it as a parts truck for the frame to fix another truck about 5 years ago, turned out not all short squares are the same, it had 56" rear springs and heavy duty brakes. After storing it for a couple years decided to part the other truck and keep this one. Paid $400 and a set of rally wheels with tires which at the time were maybe worth $300. It was a roller with no motor, trans or front seat but ZERO rust anyplace and with title.

This was another parts truck I purchased that provided the driveline for the yellow truck, it has a neat story. It was used as a class project at the University of Utah to study alternative fuels several years ago. It used smoke from smoldering wood to power the engine instead of gasoline. I really do not know how successful they were but when it came up for auction, I noticed the engine had a RPM air gap intake and Edlebrock carb, figured I would take the chance on it. When it finally was delivered it found it had a small block Chevy engine with Summit 200cc aluminum heads, roller rockers, a huge cam, MSD distributor, pop up pistons. Also had a Monster Transmission SS 700r4 with a 2500 stall converter. Took a while to sort it out and make it run right, carb jetting was all screwed up, intake runners leaked under the manifold, needed bigger fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator but it pulls like a freight train when the intake doesn't leak.
I think it was $1400 and another $900 to have it shipped to Phoenix.

This is a what would you pay?
Posted in the what would you pay thread as well.
What’s a decent condition Beau James worth? Supposedly runs and drives perfectly. Been driven regularly the last couple years, this side has all the damage, other side is no dents.
Everything works except AC but it’s all there.
Supposedly original drivetrain, looks like a 45 year old 454 in the pics.
Will say little to no rust.
Interior hard parts are very serviceable, not faded, cracked etc. looks like redo the seats and some new carpet for good measure.

Not a bad deal, sedans seem to be a little easier to seal up than hardtops. Took a while to get it fairly quiet inside, still want to hear the engine......030 over 327, 350 horse cam, little bit of a high rise with a Quadrajet, built 2004R overdrive, really nice driver. Was a Turquoise/Turquoise, when we got it. I already had the buckets. got an original style Black interior kit, door panels and all. My son painted it in July of 1997/98 and we drove it to Reno for Hot August Nights.......way to many people........NOT too many cars!!!! I guess what I'm saying is Ya run what ya got.....NO excuses....any car is good when it's yours!!!!!!!

It went from $9500 to $6500. Seems like a much better deal now.

Not a big fan of advertising what I pay for stuff or asking others what they paid, but I didn’t get it dirt cheap, although after repainting, replacing all the seals, trim and interior, I wouldn’t be out of pocket if I sold it tomorrow. (Not counting my time to restore it of course)

Paid 7k for the running and driving 80 Short bed. $1500 for the non running 84 long bed, and last Saturday we bought the 85 GMC C30 Camper Special crew cab dually for 4k with a 350/TH400 and a Holley Sniper EFI, but engine is out of it. Probably going to put a 12 valve Cummins in it. Check out Goat's Garage on youtube where eventually all of them will get some love.
