There is a #2 Philips head screw on the bottom of the mirror. Tighten it and see how much you still hate the mirrors.

You have a screwdriver, right?

Acutally, loosen that screw to allow you to pull the stainless cover up. It's been awhile, but I believe there is a spring clip that helps hold the cover on once the screw is out. You may need a screw driver to pry up on the bottom of the cover. Under that you will find bolts that tension the mirror shaft.

I use those same style mirrors on my 86 truck but they are power mirrors from a van and they don't "self adjust" when you shut the door lol

Oh just let 'em flap. The lift created by them flapping will effectively decrease overall vehicle weight allowing for increased fuel mileage and increased acceleration.

As the great Charlie Sheen once said, "I'm bi-winning".

haha wow tons of info... ya I never bothered to look to hard into how to fix the ones on there. Im pretty sure the guy that had the truck before me used it as a hunting truck (maybe), but the glass is all cracked and deep scratches all over em... I was just checking to see if there were other styles you guys personally ran

That's the most popular style it seems. I saw some 4" round "bullet mirrors" on eBay. I also consider a small 55-57 GM mirror.

Or the early 70s truck "sport mirror"

70 71 72 Chevy Truck Square Rectangle Chrome Outside Rearview Door Mirrors Pair http://r.ebay.com/cVobw2

55-57 Chevy 50-63 GM Door Fender Outside Rearview Mirrors Pontiac Oldsmobile PR http://r.ebay.com/e8n3sn

4 Bullet Race Sports Car GT Racing Chrome Side Exterior Mirror Hot Rat Rod Pair http://r.ebay.com/9g1FLE

People ditch the 3 leg towing mirror in droves even though it is considered "correct". I'll run wtfe I want and THAT will be "correct" for me!

In Oklahoma only a mirror on the driver side is required. Check local laws when modifying federally-mandated safety equipment.
I do not like the hooptie lookin ones we have.... :(. I would have ditched my tripods too!

Places like O'Reilly Auto Parts sells just the mirror lense for this style mirror. Several square body suppliers sell replacement mirrors in chrome or stainless ($25-$30 ea). LMC Truck is the only one I know that sells the wide angle right mirror.

Pop the cover off and tighten the 2 tension bolts. $10 for new glass at the local parts store.
