I had a valve cover leak, last time I put the gasket on i did not have the yellow glue I usually use.

BEHOLD: Its yellow weatherstrip adhesive.

I wiped the oil out of the channel so the glue has something to stick too.

Just a thin bead around the parameter to tack the gasket in place.

Stick the gasket to the glue and let it sit for a while. Ensure your bolt holes line up with holes in the gasket and PRESTO! My Dad showed me this trick and I have used it since.

I've used that stuff for years. One of the old timer guys I used to ask for advice way back in the day told me about that stuff. He calls it gorilla snot and it just about is. Its takcy but stringy and stretchy, so if you have to adjust a bit, you can.

I need to do something about the vc gaskets in the 454 too. They seep a little at times and I end up adding a qt of oil between changes now. Might get by with just retorquing though too.

Those cork gaskets are expensive over here. The rubber ones are cheaper.

I like the rubber ones better myself.

Plus that cork can be a real bitch to scrape off when you got to replace it.

I definatley prefer the rubber or neoprene. Not a van of cork.

The rubber ones were twice as much as cork, I like the old school appeal of the Fel-pro gaskets. I think they are being phased out like the oil pan gasket I just but on the big block dump truck. The silicone one was 50 bucks but its reusable and alot more convenient that the cork/rubber ******** normally used.
