Timing help needed 400 smb

Hi, I put a 1977 400 in my 1983 k10' engine is stock, no perf addons, no ac, smog pump, no egr valve, just a stripped down engine, I am using the stock 305 distributor from my old engine, I did the esc mod by connecting the black and green wire ,bypassed the esc module, just wondering what degree for timing would be a good starting point. Thanks

Honestly I like to start by setting total timing. About 36° with it revved up. If you're at a high elevation you can add a few degrees. If you get pinging or it struggles to start back off abit.
