Tbi has feed and return. Install a fpr and set up fuel pump to run when engine is turning(can be done using oil pressure switch)

Tbi system uses oil pressure switch as a backup power source for the fuel pump in case relay fails. Ecm send the relay a signal for priming when the key is turned on. So, essentially there is no change needed when installing the carb if the ecm, relay, oil pressure switch and their wiring stays in place.
ECM will prime the system, and the oil pressure switch will keep the 12v supplied to the pump while there is at least minimal oil pressure. You can also just use the oil pressure switch, which would be about same as if using the mechanical fuel pump. No fuel untill cranking. Not an issue unless vehicle sits long enough for bowls to dry up.

However, I only used the setup with priming ability in tact. As a backup, a toggle switch can be installed in case oil pressure fails but still need to keep going. Or need a longer prime to fill the bowls.

Ideally the fpr and its lines should not be right above the exhaust

Yes, leave all wiring as it is to the fuel pump circuit. I installed by-pass regulator and fuel log on a duel line holley.

so the line coming in goes to the fuel log and then to the regulator?

shouldn't the pressure be regulated before entering the fuel log?

Yes, fuel enters log, goes past carb inlets, through by-pass regulator, and then returns to tank. Ran it that way for 13yrs. It was installed per instructions. There is also a fuel pressure guage on the reguator. I ran it at 6lbs for the carb.

Standing in front of the truck, it should be the right line. The larger of the two. Look at your filter and follow the line from it. Mine is a 92 but I think yours is the same. Your filter is on the drivers side (left) frame. Correct?
